Sitting in daytime

Featured Replies

one of my hens has finished laying her (7eggs) and started sitting on them all 2 days ago, but when i went out last night to check on them the stupid hen and cock are both asleep hanging on the wire.

will these eggs still be okay, in the early stages do they only need a little heat (she is in the nest all day long) very good sitter through the day. but wants to be outside at night... grrrrrrrrr :D

is it okay for several eggs to be sitting dormant (no heat) for several days before the hen starts to sit on all the eggs.

please help asap, thanks

im afraid these these eggs will be no good now for some reason budgie eggs dont lay dormant as good as other birds say canaries where breeders replace the eggs with false ones and then put the eggs back so the chicks hatch at the same time plus if she is incubating during the day and not at night the embryo will chill and die

awww how sad.

silly hen

Was this the hens first eggs?

im not sure ive only had her this season, first eggs for me! she is still mating so goodness knows how many eggs are going to be ruined, im so upset what a waste

Take the box out, and don't breed her again this season. She might be too young. Whatever the reason, give her a break from producing eggs

oh she is not a young bird, she has an 02 ring, hopeffully she will realize that she has to sit at night and perhaps some of the later eggs will still be okay and will hatch.

Aaaww - what a shame. :)

Hope you have better luck another time.

Are you colony breeding?

Have you tried breeding cages?

She may have bread in cages if she has bread before. Or the breder that sold her may have know this about her and got rid of her.. :o

If she is going to sit for you she shoundn't be mating still. I'd take the eggs away if you want her to have more.. She should start to sit day 3 at the lattest, while she is still laying.

make sure she has not been chased out at night by any other hens.. :)
