Breeding cage

As i have only breed in the aviary i'm going to try breeding cages.

Not sure how they work.

I have seen a single breeding cage its only 60cm in length that looks to

small is that size okay.

Plus i have seen a double breeding cage 100cm.

Is a double breeding cage for 1 pair of budgies or 2 pairs.

I was thinking of using a double for 1 pair.

You can find breeding cages on e-Bay for about $28 U.S. I'm not sure about the width, but I've heard that they need to be quite long to help fledging chicks avoid knocking themselves senseless. Not much advice, as I'm not a breeder, but I hope it helps. :P

mine are 24 inchs long x 18inchs high x 12 inchs deep

Hath

thats about 60cm long,

Don't they get stressed out in a a tiny cage.

Do you put the **** and hen in the same time.

no never get stressed i put the cock and the hen in together and try and put them in about 3 to 4 hours before dark keep a close eye on them in case they fight (it does happen but not very often its normally the hen who attacks the female if he doesnt take notice of her) my cages have the nest box on the outside

The wooden boxes are okay aren't they? I'm getting a couple for my birthday so this is helpful so i know what to look for! :D

wooden ones are fine all mine are woodjust paint them white i use gloss paint so its easier to clean

I was given a breeding box 24 inches long x15inches high 10inches deep.

With nestbox on outside. Is that to small.

It looks way to small to me.

But only little smaller than Hath's at 24x18x12.

When the babies leave the nestbox there wouldn't be much room

in a small cage, so when do you put them in aviary.

that cage will do when the chicks leave make sure they have someplace to hide i use a platform 3 inchs high i usually remove the chicks 8 to 10 days after they leave the nest as long as they are eating okay i would not put them straight into an aviary but another cage and keep them in there for about 2 to 3 weeks to ensure they eat well

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by the platform.

is it something you put in bottom corner of the cage,

or end of the perch,3inches high with roof and 2 sides?

Can you explain more please thanks.

3 inches high with 2 sides about 4x4inchs square placed on the cage bottom so the chicks can get away from the parents if attacked you can put the soft food on it if you like

Here's apicture of my Breeding Cage.
