Posted August 13, 200519 yr Hi, my name's Jess and 18 months ago I bought a male breeding bird called Sparkie. About 2 months ago I bought a female and called her Sprite. Sparkie seems very interested but Sprite does not, even though they get along great. Also I bought a new pair yesterday, the female is very young and I'm unsure on whether to tame her and sell her (and get a new older female) or try and breed her later. What should I do? :fear HELP!!!
August 13, 200519 yr Have you added a box? because thats the major thing to start a hen into wanting to breed. There is the other side that not all budgies will like the one they are paired with. As to the young bird I would tame her them breed her later No harm in that and when the hen is use to your hand i'm sure it helps when you are wanting to check eggs or babies.
August 13, 200519 yr I don't know how old Sprite is I didn't think of that when I bought her, but I got her from a very reputable pet shop and the lady said she was good to breed from. She was on heat when I bought her and I think that she is at least 18 months old. Yes I have three nest boxes and a big avery outside. thanks for any advice I'm in australia and some people say the'll breed any time of the year, others say the best time is in september (For us, early Spring) Is that right?? :budgiedance:
August 13, 200519 yr yes Spring is the best time to breed them. But if the weather is right then they will breed all year round if not stopped. Oh and with birds it's 'in breeding condition' not in heat like a dog :budgiedance:
