Oil gland

Featured Replies

My youngest bird, Newton, gets absolutely soaked when encountering water and I have never seen him use his oil gland. Is this something they automatically know about or does it take time? Are their first feathers any different than those after the first molt? Check out this picture.

Other budgies I have had have water bouce off of them. I have never seen this before...any ideas?

Some budgies (like yours) get really into bathing so therefore the become wetter. :) If they just splash around a little bit then they don't get soaking wet.

Yes, don't worry. My budgie is as wet too because she likes to dive :(Laughing out loud):

ohhh great picture!

my coco the conure gets soaked like that, he looks like a little drowned rat (with feathers :( ) he gets so saturated, that i can see his little ear holes!

i think its instink that they know where it is!
