I think my new budgie is about 14 weeks old. I am seeing some more feathers starting to fly around and am thinking he may be starting to molt. Is this right, time-wise? If so, when does the cere colour change...is it before the molt or after the first molt? There is a red spot on his (or at least I thought it was a he) cere and I can't tell if it is changing colour or if it is something else. Also, how often do birds molt? My older budgie goes through frequent stages of losing a lot of feathers. Some more than others. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

14 weeks ir right for them to start the big first moult. And the cere changes happens around the same time.

 

How offen they moult come does to the enivroment they are in. If it is alway perfect spring time weather they can moult ever two weeks or o until it seems like they moult all the times, others only moult twice a year.
