August 8, 200520 yr 1. As they are so young you should use millet to bribe them onto your fingers...once they are tame a small piece about once a week is good. 2. It's a good idea to cover them at night because then their bedtime can be regular regardless of when you go to bed...it also seems to give them a sense of security. 3. By covering them you're giving them dim light so the light shouldn't bother them. 4. Trill definitely has the best reputation as far as i can tell. Get the complete budgie mix as that has more types of seed than the regular budgie mix. 5. brocolli, carrot, spinach, zuchinni, apple, etc. They're all good. It might take a while to convince your budgies that it's food though. 6. mashed egg and shell is good for all budgies. 7. definitely always supply them with a cuttlebone.
August 8, 200520 yr I agree with Bea, except my birds NEVER touched cuttlebone so I spent $4 and got them a calcium perch, which they gnaw on all the time as they're sitting on it. Any fruits & veggies except avocado & chocolate, and you can even give them plain cooked pasta and whole wheat bread. Not that mine actually eat that stuff when I give it to them....Brats! August 9, 200520 yr Just to add, my rule is 2 inches of spray millet per budgie per week although sometimes I give a little more but not too much as it might cause them to be fat. As for the egg and crushed egg shell, I usually feed mine with egg biscuits.
August 9, 200520 yr Good luck with your new birds Emma I hope you have many years of wonderful times with them.
August 9, 200520 yr hello mr c. thank you for your reply. i am from perth.my family live in rockingham. we have a budgie named eric in australia and he is 12 years old. i will be seeing him at christmas i can't wait. all the best. emma
August 9, 200520 yr Oh wow how cool is that, another Sandgroper living overseas you must of moved to London because of the great weather they have there (Laughing out loud). I hope you enjoy your trip back at Xmas. I'm sure you miss Eric if he's been in your family for twelve years that's a pretty good age for a budgie. Your family must love living in the land of the swinging pig. (Laughing out loud)
August 13, 200520 yr hello mr c. i am not having much luck with budgies at the moment.i was on the phone to my mum today and in the back ground my dad was crying. my mum said she would ring me back and when she did she told me that my dad had just sat on eric our budgie of twleve years and that he was dead. i can't believe my luck lately. my bangers seems as though he is looking a bit better but he isn't chirping and he is still wobbly on his feet i am going to give the vet a ring now. anyway all the best. emma :nest:
August 13, 200520 yr 1.how often should i give my pet budgies millet.i have 2 boys about 8-10 weeks old Note that not all budgies like Millet. Beekle used to nibble it if it was less bother than flying back to his cage but now he ignores it or when I last left some in his cage he threw it out.
August 13, 200520 yr oh Emma! i was reading your post and then i read the sad news above. Im sorry to gear that. Your poor dad must feel awful.
August 13, 200520 yr I am very sorry about Eric, I'm sure your dad must feel terrible. Let us know what the vet says about bangers.
August 13, 200520 yr Oh, that's terrible! I hope he isn't too badly hurt, let us know how he goes Emma
