August 13, 200519 yr Mystery and Blossom are greywings. Part of the definition of a greywing is that the wings and markings are about 50% diluted from normal. The body color is somewhat diluted as well. For comparison, Skittles is of normal color - she is in back, the two greywings are in front. Does this help? Edited August 13, 200519 yr by Rainbow
August 13, 200519 yr This is confusing! Their markings look more cinnamon to me. Yeah, I've read that greywings have body color that is also washed out about 50% compared to a normal budgie and then the markings are grey. I thought dilutes were even lighter than that.
August 13, 200519 yr they're not brown at all, I think it is just the yellow cast on my picture. I'll look for a better one. My Crystal, aka Trouble is a dilute. (he's the one I think looks like yours. :nest:) Found one - the flash messes up the colors a little, but the greywing you can see, Skittles is hidden a bit but you can tell the difference in the normal colored flight feather versus the grey ones. You can also see the body color dilution as well as the tail feather dilution. Both birds are type 2 yellowface skyblues, but the difference in the intensity of the color I think is due to the greywing factor. Edited August 13, 200519 yr by Rainbow
August 13, 200519 yr :nest: How can he be dilute with such distinct markings? I thought dilutes had extremely faint markings and body colors? I was under the impression that (to put it really basically because that's the only way I understand this ) greywings have markings and body colors that are about 50% lighter than normal which results in grey instead of black markings and a pale blue instead of bright sky blue (in paris's case). Crystal's markings look quite a bit darker than that. Well, they're grey as you said but still pretty close to black? I know this is a bad comparison for the most part but when you look at Pixel's markings (the darker ones at least) and then at Paris's it seems like his are about half as dark. I think my brain is going to explode now.
August 13, 200519 yr BOOM! You are right about greywings, but Crystal is not a greywing. Mystery and Blossom are. Trouble, er Crystal's black markings aren't really very dark compared to the other birds. And his body color is very light. But Paris' shell markings are lighter. With the flash, he looks much closer in color to Paris. If you don't think Crystal is a dilute, what would you call him? He's not a greywing, and he's not a normal. He's not a clearflight, as his tail has color. I guess we could say he's definitely male and definitely pied? Edited August 13, 200519 yr by Rainbow
August 13, 200519 yr He's a um... really cute budgie? I looked at Paris a little more closely today and some of his wing markings are getting darker. They're closer to Crystal's in the picture but not quite as dark. You said he actually looks closer to Paris so I guess they are both the "really cute" mutation. Maybe when Paris's molt FINALLY finishes, his markings will be more even.
August 13, 200519 yr Aww how pretty!! The pied version of Paris. That shade of grey looks a lot closer to Paris's. I want some of your birds please.
August 13, 200519 yr You don't really know what you are asking, do you? LOL they will take over your house and everyone in it.
August 13, 200519 yr But they're sooo pretty... I'm becoming a good bird slave, I think I can handle being a slave to a few (dozen) more
August 14, 200519 yr I have an all yellow bird with red eyes, is that what you are after? I don't know too much about bird colours and make my choices on how they appeal to me! Let me know if she is what you are after and I will endevour to get some pics to you. Thanks Kerri <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sounds like a lutino so yeah, I could use a picture if you don't mind. terri@budgietalk.com hiI sent you some pictures of my birds did you get them? kathy <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep! Thank you, they're great! Most dilutes and clearwings have colored markings. They get them after their first molt. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, okay. I think I need to go get my brain tuned up now, a fuse has blown... But more seriously, I appreciate your input.
August 14, 200519 yr Thanks! It's going to take a lot longer than I thought to put just this one page together. For a moment I thought of just posting a zillion pictures and then putting "Figure it out yourself!" But I won't. I will be as educational as I possibly can.
