Posted August 3, 200519 yr Yesterday morning Gypsy had thrown an egg out of the nest. This morning there is another one out. She is still sitting, I have no idea what the problem is. Stupid bird! All I want is one baby. think she might have to go out to the aviary, and I'll bring in another pair. I'm so depressed about this. I want a baby.
August 3, 200519 yr Let's hope she keeps sitting on that last egg. Perhaps the ones she tossed were infertile? You'll get your baby Lin! Don't worry! :grbud:
August 3, 200519 yr I cracked the egg open and it was just an egg. I suppose their should have been a chick in it if it was fertile. I really wanted a baby from Gypy, she is the same blue as Blinkie. The other budgies are yellow and green. Pretty, but I wanted a blue one! I hope I do get a baby, but now we probably won't have twins :grbud:
August 3, 200519 yr :grbud: I want to to get a Blinkie too and it can't be a Blinkie if it's not blue. Everyone....put your thoughts and prayers together and lets get this egg to hatch!
August 3, 200519 yr Thanks Bea! I suppose if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. But I can't believe I've failed with 2 clutches.
August 3, 200519 yr Aw lin-sorry to hear that. BIG golden hatching vibes winging their way to you. Julie
August 3, 200519 yr Aw lin-sorry to hear that. BIG golden hatching vibes winging their way to you. Julie <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My budge through out her 4th egg today, she has three babies, and now one egg to hatch. I guess they just know best! I cracked the egg open and it was empty, those birds are smart! I hope you get your baby soon!
August 3, 200519 yr Thanks all. Well I just checked the nest box (something I try not to do because Gypsy is so nasty), and there was still 2 eggs. Yesterday, there was definately 2, as she was out of the box,so the one on the floor was definately thrown out, this morning she was still in there and it looked like 1. It is definately 2, so either she laid an egg on the floor this morning, or she has laid another one in the box. Why on earth she would start laying eggs again is beyond me, but I still have 2 eggs! Still about 5 days to go, so fingers and toes crossed that at least one hatches. I will never breed Gypsy again, she has aged me so much over this process! I wasn't this worried when I gave birth myself! Edited August 3, 200519 yr by lin
August 3, 200519 yr (Laughing out loud)...Gypsy is really testing your limits! :(Laughing out loud): Maybe you should try breeding with a hen that lets you check the box more often.
August 3, 200519 yr Well, I checked the aviary yesterday. I have 3 boys and 2 females. 2 boys were feeding each other. (Laughing out loud). So, that leaves 1 male! He didn't seem overlyfriendly with either of the girls, but I'll bring him in with a girl next week. I might use a different cage. With this cage the box is inside, so it does make it difficult to check, but I've got a smaller cage where I should be able to put the box on the outside.
August 4, 200519 yr Have you thought about just swapping the hen over if she throws out the rest of the eggs!! The male you have may take to her.
August 4, 200519 yr Will that work? It's certainly an idea! Maybe I should just fill my lounge with cages of couples, and out of about 20 eggs I might get one to hatch! (Laughing out loud)
August 4, 200519 yr Have you thought about just swapping the hen over if she throws out the rest of the eggs!! The male you have may take to her. he will take to quicker if you make sure he cant here her calling him
August 4, 200519 yr Hath is right he willl take to her and even quicker if he can't hear her calling. One of my old girls had her last clutch last year with 1 of my young boys so I let them have a clutch, then I put a young hen with him and they are still together. Good luck.
August 4, 200519 yr Oh, that's not really possible. Not until the new aviary is finished anyway. The aviary the budgies are in is only a few metres from where the inside cages are. On the weekend I will move in another pair, and I will leave Gypsy and Scruffy for another week. If the egg/s don't hatch I will move them out to the aviary. By that time I should have finished the new aviary, which I want all the budgies in anyway. Thanks for the advice all.
August 6, 200519 yr Well, I just checked on my eggs, still 2 in there. I looked today for a syringe - is that right- in case I have to hand feed, and couldn't find anything suitable. I want to go and get something tomorrow, better safe than sorry. Can I have some help guys? I'm just a bit worried, if they do hatch they will be her first, and I have had too many problems up til now, I'd hate to be caught short. I will buy some hand rearing food too, but just for interest, what do you use for an emergency, if your caught short?
August 7, 200519 yr A little spoon and watered down egg and biscuit mix. If you don't have that you blend some museli so it's super fine and water it down with warm water.
August 7, 200519 yr Thanks Bea. Hopefully I won't have to use that information, but it is probably something I should have known before I put the nest box in. Good luck for your eggs, my fingers are crossed for you
