Discouraging budgies to talk..

Featured Replies

Posted

Well in the last few days Sparky is actually starting to try and talk, he starts to whistle and can almost say "good boy" and obviously I was excited and started cheering him on and saying what a good boy he is but my neighbour says that you shouldn't reply to a budgie that starts speaking because it puts them off. Is this true? :D

Well I can't really see that can do any harm at all? Are you sure she doesn't mean that it's important to remember to keep repeating to him what you are wanting him to say?

It's sounds really exciting! It must be such a thrill!

Julie

It was a big thrill Julie and my neighbour says that you shouldn't reply because it distracts them and puts them off their stroke.

When Blinkie starts bopping his head screaming kissy kissy kissy i cheer him on by yelling kissy kissy kissy right back at him! Maybe you could try using the phrase you're trying to teach him as your official Sparky cheer.

Yeah when ever he does say good boy I would say good boy back to him anyway.(Laughing out loud)

And just 30 mins ago I went to see her budgie which is pretty fat and so I asked her why and she says that female budgies are more obese then male budgies, but I thought that couldn't be true because Sparky is female and he is alot thinner than her budgie. Is she telling the truth this time?

I think her budgie is fat because it eats too much, and doesn't exercise enough (Laughing out loud). Just because people sound like they know what they're talking about doesn't mean they do.

Congratulations on the talking! I would say whatever your doing, it's obviously working for you, so just keep doing it.

(Laughing out loud) thanks lin

Next time I hear her making up these stories I'll just smile, nod my head and let it go in one ear and out the other. :)

I suggest you keep saying the same expression to your bird and ignore any advice to the contrary.

Once it has fully mastered the first words, go on to the next.

While I have a certain technique in teaching a budgie to talk, an essential ingredient is repetition.

To listen to Lucky speak, just visit my website . You will be amazed at his vocabulary
