how long does an egg take from laying to hatching :D

Hope this helps, it's taken from my Encarta Enclyopedia

"Twice a year, the female lays up to 8 white, rounded eggs and incubates them for about 17 days. The young fledge about four weeks after hatching. "

The whole process from laying to fledge takes about two months given that she usually lays every other day. But I would hazard a guess that it differs quite a bit from bird to bird. One of my babies took forever to leave the nest. :D

not sure how to work these message things yet sorry

The eggs can hatch between 17 and 21 days depending on when the hen starts to brood.

Touching the eggs? You can but you don't have to unless there is a problem or you are giving them to a forster mum.

They shouldn't mind you touching the eggs or the babies, but some do! You just have to know your birds.

Mine don't mind but I have had some that did, so I stoped breeding them.

You have to clean your babies feet and check beak from about 2 and 1/2 weeks of age.

18 days but the first could possibly take 20 as sometimes the hen will not start to incubate till the second egg id laid

i dont touch the eggs at all with my hands this is so i dont pass any germs ect on to the egg but i do check the nest box twice a day this is to ensure the hens good health not the eggs i start to touch the chicks around 6 to 10 days this is to ring them and then i leave them alone touching them when i clean the nest out and cleaning their legs i start to hold them around 3 weeks
