Posted July 28, 200519 yr Hi, I am thinking of making some toys for Cha Pou from shreds of paper tied with a string. My question is, what kind of string should I use that is safe for budgies? Besides that, what other toys could I make from paper? And, is brown paper bag safe for budgies? Would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
July 28, 200519 yr Natural string, and quite thick or they'll chew through it too quick (Laughing out loud). For my lorikeet I found some cotton rope at the two dollar shop, it will last for ages. Might be too thick for budgies, but cotton, jute anything like that. Don't know about brown paper, others will be able to tell. I'd certainly steer clear of bleached paper.
July 28, 200519 yr something that doesnt go into thin strands when chewed so they dont catch feet or beaks
July 29, 200519 yr Cotton ropes and other ropes that aren't easily chewed through aren't safe for budgies or parrots in general. If they get tangled in it they can panic and do lots of nasty things to themselves. When I need rope for something, I use untreated sisal rope. It's made of something that birds can easily chew through if they get tangled in it.
July 29, 200519 yr I cut little lengths of string and tied them in a bundle, Graham loved it, and twiddled for ages on that idea. Just a thought, If you ever use wooden beads to make your toys, be aware of the colour blue. If they are not sold as toys, or pet toys , they could be very toxic. its fun making these birdie bits
