Posted July 27, 200519 yr A woman at school told me a few weeks ago that her budgies had laid eggs - colony breeding, outside aviary. I asked her yesterday how they were going, and she said they had all been thrown out of the nest. She didn't know at what age. She brough me in an egg today, and I cracked it open. It looked to me like the outside of the bird had started to form. Just for interest sake, does anyone know of a website that shows the development of the embryo inside the egg, and on what day it takes place?
July 29, 200519 yr I saw one too I think i might have posted about it, i'll look about for ya. edit- okay sorry this is it here http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/1958/eggs.html But it only shows the outside and the colour of the egg at differant times. I wonder if anyone has been willing enough to kill a growing baby just to get pics if what it looks like at different times. Edited July 29, 200519 yr by nerwen
July 29, 200519 yr Surely there's other ways of getting pictures of embryos? They can do it with humans, I was just hoping someone had done it with birds too Thanks for the link
July 30, 200519 yr Interesting Idea, I wonder if the same utrasound machine would work. Well in looking about for you I found a couple of interesting sites, nothing at all to do with this
August 10, 200519 yr Here's a link that describes the growth inside the egg (of chickens) but no pictures. There is a chart at the bottom that lists incubation times for various species of parrots. It was interesting. http://www.holisticbirds.com/hbn03/autumn03/pages/egg.htm
