Posted July 24, 200520 yr Normally this wouldn't be a concern with me, but our AC has broken down. The temperatures here are easily hitting high 90s and low 100s. It is a bit cooler in the house (usually around 80 degrees), but I just wanted to know how hot is too hot. Pan of course has access to plenty of water, and it's probably silly of me to worry about 80 degrees being too warm for a bird that came from Australia, but it never hurts to doublecheck.
July 24, 200520 yr i wouldnt worry too much. if they seem hot and are holding their wings away from their body then mist spray them with some cool water and leave a bath out for them to enjoy if they wish its been really hot here in england the last few weeks. just over 30 celcius (sorry i dont know fahrenheit) and very very few houses have air con over here! my birds have been fine though, sometimes i leave them in a cooler part of the house at the hottest part of the day.
July 25, 200520 yr Ew, Jensa, you are having the same weather we are. It's miserable, isn't it? Hope that a/c gets repaired quickly!
July 25, 200520 yr So 40C would be 104F??? That's about the hottest we get in Canberra but we usually don't get much higher than 32C. Budgies are really hardy. As long as they have fresh water they can deal with really hot temps as well as really low.
July 25, 200520 yr We can get a few days in a row of 45 or higher here. The birds outside get a sprinkler on top of the aviary, birds inside have a constant supply of bath water. I think the biggest problem would be a huge change in temperature over a short time
