Variety is the spice of life

Thought about that, too. I've sprinkled it into the fruit cup that I offer them every day, mixed it with their seed and have it in another cup moistened with water. Thought about putting it into organic baby applesauce, too. I can't believe I'm going through all this!! Oh, well. I'm just trying to get them used to having different sorts of food available at this point, because I don't think either one has ever seen anything except seed. Blueberry keeps eyeing the fruit bowl, though. *sigh*

morethanrubies, you were right. The PetSmart near me didn't have it. They didn't even have any of the hard egg biscuits I got before. I think I will order some crumbly egg food and see how that goes. I like the idea of "immersion therapy"... :)

Worked when I was teaching, and when I took Spanish in college. I can still function in Espanol and it was over 10 years ago!!! (I'm 29) Let me know where you find your egg food...Drsfostersmith.com has it on sale now. Quick-o brand. I couldn't find the hard egg biscuits at my petsmart yesterday, come to think of it. Man, I guess we're all gonna have to go mail-order.

As for "immersion" I'm just trying to put pellets in EVERY BOWL OF FOOD, to get them used to food that doesn't resemble seed. I think they've only ever had seed. If persistence pays off in getting birds (and my kids) to eat fruits & veggies, then maybe it'll work with my birds. *praying*

Just read a couple of articles touting that LaFeber's Avi-cakes can help convert a bird to a pellet diet since the pellets are bonded to the seed. Several people report great success with this. I wonder if my birds would even eat the avi-cakes?! Many people (in my research) have said that it takes a month to convert a bird to pellets. Picky little b*****rds.

I looked at some tonight! :) I didn't get them because they have molasses/sugar in the ingredients, and I don't give my birds sugar (just a personal preference, nothing scientific about that one). But I know a lot of people have had success with them. They are supposed to be good.

Just thinking of possibly using them as a"gateway" to pellets. Just a thought.

They look like they would be fun for the birds to eat, since they would have to "work for their food", so to speak. :)

I'm ordering eggfood tonight. :) (and more food, wheatgrass, toys,...... :) You know how it goes.)

I have to wait until the 1st of the month to buy more goodies. Pay-day, you know. Let me know how it goes for you!
