Posted July 19, 200519 yr Hello All, Just thought would check with all you experts out there. Sometimes joey sits on his perch and does a funny thing with his headhe put's his head forward and opens his beak as thought he's heaving to be sick is that normal? Thanks Lyn :bb:
July 19, 200519 yr it depends.Sometimes males sometimes vomit when they feel *****. It may be that he is poorly. Is he showing any signs of illness? Fluffed up feathers? quieter than usual etc has he got some seed stuck? Has he got fresh water?
July 19, 200519 yr My bird will do this sometimes. Seems to be just a mannerism. You could have him checked, though, if you think he's in distress when he does it.

There's nothing you or anyone else here would be able to do for that.
July 19, 200519 yr AIR SAC MITES?! Yuck. I hate bugs. While we're talking bugs, do any of you use a cage protector/scalex-type spray on a regular basis? I'm talking preventive care, here. Just curious. See all this stuff sold in the stores, you know...
July 19, 200519 yr The mite protectors that hang on the cages are useless. They shouldn't be used. I've never used a spray to prevent mites as they shouldn't be a problem for indoor birds. If they do become a problem, the vet is the best place to acquire a safe, effective spray. Most of the products I've seen in pet stores are not only useless but sometimes even harmful.
July 19, 200519 yr Harmful well that doesn't make any sense at all...i still miss my budgie air sac mites are evil! I also think the only reason he died so quickly after he started getting clicking sounds is becasue the female pecked him n the head and it strted bleeding
July 19, 200519 yr The mite protectors that are sold in pet stores actually contain toxins that your budgie will breathe in. Absolutely harmful. Please don't use them.
