April 17, 200421 yr That's right! I love that movie, and when you said Turk, that's what I thought of.
June 18, 200420 yr Hi everyone,i hope im not butting in as a new member. My chicco used to bite, was really sore.I tried the Blowing bit, didnt work.I then started to hold her tail and say NO,bad. It took a long time but she actually stopped biting. Oh never pull the tail, just hold it every time the bird bites for a few seconds. Edited June 18, 200420 yr by ginny
August 3, 200420 yr Mine are always biting not talking and he is biting more fast and more dangerously and i dont know how to cut his wings can any body tell me
August 4, 200420 yr Author mawag, cutting your budgies wingFEATHERS can be very dangerous to the bird if its not done propery. It can toatally cripple him, and jsut through a bad feather trim they can land up with profuse bleeding, go into shock, and die. A wing trim should ALWAYS be done professionally, because sometimes you can cut through a BLOODFEATHER, and the wings should never be so severely trimmed as to completely stop the bird from flying. At most, it should just slow the birds flight down a little, and make it slightly harder for the bird to gain to much height whilst flying.
August 5, 200420 yr chirpy if i dont cut the wings how should i teach him to talk i think you have also done that thing to teach teapot and i cant let the bird out of the cage if its wings are not cut becoz i live in a Flat and its a open flat not a room in which i let my bird feel free to fly becoz every room is attach to the other room from roof...
August 8, 200420 yr now why do you want to clip your budgies wings? thats cruel I also live in a flat, okay each room has a door on it,but all doors are always open. I have nets on all windows so they cant escape. None of my budgies talk.okay they can say 1 word chicco, this was my oldest hen and she must have taught the others this, i say if they want to talk okay if not also okay with me. I thinks its cute and funny when they do talk, but its not a * must* Im happy just to see them being budgies
August 8, 200420 yr yes i agree with ginny, and you do not need to clip the wings the teach them to talk, my bugie turk has managed to mimick my laugh really well and he has never had his wings clipped, whereas my peter had his wings clipped when i brought him and i tried to teach him how to say hello but it did not work at all, some are just talkers naturally **like teapot ** and others will just never pick up on it. August 9, 200420 yr agrees with the two above although my birdie never spoke any word, but that was my fault not taking the time to train her Flying or not flying has nothing to do with talking, keep it in the cage while you repeat the word or words you want him to say. He would be a capative audience then
January 25, 200520 yr if you have a bird that is a bit of a 'biter', the last thing yu should do is yell when it bites! Apparently, the bird will think yu are enjoying this 'game', because in the wild when they are playing and socialising, the squawks are often a sign of fun and enjoyment! So the louder you yell, the more your bird will think you are loving it! Also, letting your bird sit on your shoulder makes him feel very high in the pecking order, because again, in the wild, the higher up the tree the bird is, the more dominant he is. You must keep control of that dominance, by making him sit on your forarm, or your lap if you are sat down. he will see YOU as the boss then. (however, i do still let my budgie sit on my shoulder cos he's still below mouth level, but i refuse to let him sit on my head)And, again with biting, if yur bird has a tendancy to do this when youre holding him, quietly but immediately place him low down. repeat this if he climbs back up! show him who's top bird. But never ever shout at him, punish him physically or give up and him and neglect him thinking he'll learn his lesson. he wont. he'll simply fade into a shadow of himself and have a very sad little heart. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> this is just what ive been looking for;my budgie's acting like a teenager; his biting is starting to get us down. Thanks; I so hope I can make him happy!
March 25, 200520 yr The light blow in the face works really well for me too. I never know about the height thing! I always put Gizmo up really high because he doesnt like being low, but I didnt realise this could affect my 'boss' status! However, whenever I try and lower him a little he always flies off. Anything I can do?
March 25, 200520 yr I ignore Blinkie when he bites. It's easy though cause his hardest bite is really weeny!!! He thinks he's all tough!!!
May 29, 200519 yr try gently holding the beak after they bite and say no, after awhile they will get it. It worked fro my 4 budgies. It doesn't work for me (the face blowing technique). They just kept biting. But ive started to be able to stand the bite, when i was younger i'd just yell out 'f*ck'. But now it doesn't even feel like a pinch unless they get a part of my hand where its....i guess webbed, as in the skin between each finger. & Kaye please dont critisise other people. well not sure if it was critisising but just dont laugh at people(unless of course its a joke or sumthing funny). Smokey is vicious now since he defends his area in the breeding cage <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
May 29, 200519 yr this is just what ive been looking for;my budgie's acting like a teenager; his biting is starting to get us down. Thanks; I so hope I can make him happy! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Perservere with your little pet..Budgies do go through a terrible teens phase but you must stay patient with him and try to act the same as always with him. My lutino was an awful biter when I got her, she drew blood but as I remembered from reading on here I didnt yell..(I may have gone silent and held my breath a lot though !! :(Laughing out loud): )I just blew in her face ..she didnt let up straight away but I could tell she didnt appreciate it so next time I blew a little harder until she stopped doing it... I kept holding her a few times a day it has been a lot better.. Dont think your budgie hates you!! its just like when we were kids...trying to see what it can get away with ..or its just plain scared!!!! Good luck xx
May 29, 200519 yr I agree with what was said about ignoring the bites, that definitely helps. Blowing in the face usually helps. Unless your budgie is like my Piper. I used to try blowing in her face but I swear she just laughed at me. She did grow out of that stage though. It gets better.
May 29, 200519 yr yer face blow method has aldo worked for me but also if the budgie is on my hand and wants to bite or nibble me i just talk gentaly and move him onto the other hand or give him a little wobble wen he bites
February 7, 201015 yr And, again with biting, if your bird has a tendancy to do this when youre holding him, quietly but immediately place him low down. repeat this if he climbs back up! show him who's top bird.
