Posted July 8, 200519 yr I have an outside cage, it's quite large for 2 birds, and it's undercover. But it tends to get windy and very cold sometimes, and i wonder how they cope. Since the colder days are still to come for sydney, i was wondering if i should bring them inside at night, and they can sleep in a smaller cage. Or should i bring them in for the winter altogether. Will all this help in any way or will it just weaken them when they go back out?
July 8, 200519 yr My budgies are outside all year round (except for Blinkie) and they don't seem to suffer because of the cold. At night i cover them with heshen which keeps a lot of the harsher wind out and i also put down the side covers when it rains to keep them nice and dry. I've also brought budgies in to breed during the winter before and they didn't have trouble adapting when they went back out to the aviary.
July 8, 200519 yr I agree with Bea. Just cover the aviary at night to keep out the cold and the rain. Cindy
July 8, 200519 yr okay thanks. I do that most of the time, on colder nights, but since you guys have all said to do this, i'll put the blanket over them evbery night....if i remember By the way, what's Heshen?
July 8, 200519 yr By the way Bea, why does only Blinkie stay inside? Is it becausehe's....LORD BLINKIE? No but seriously?

You know the stuff? By the way Bea, why does only Blinkie stay inside? Is it becausehe's....LORD BLINKIE? No but seriously? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because he's the Alimighty One and he's my tame pet instead of my budgified budgies.
July 8, 200519 yr Cool, i think i have heshen then !!!! Yes, your blinkie is a special budgie! If i knew where you live i would come and bargain with you for him He's just so adorable! <and mischevious>
July 8, 200519 yr Even if you don't have heshen it's super cheap and will hardly cost a thing! No amount of money is worth Blinkie....he's priceless!
July 8, 200519 yr Does any body know What sort of birds/other animals are compatible with the budgie. Coz i'm going to build a BIG aviary and i'm going to have quail (previous experience, so don't worry, i'll take good care of them ), budgies and i want something else Should i get one more or is 2 enough?
July 8, 200519 yr Even if you don't have heshen it's super cheap and will hardly cost a thing! No amount of money is worth Blinkie....he's priceless! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes he most certainly is! But how bout a bribe of ......$ 10 million DOLLARS <in a game hostess voice> just kidding. I'll be lucky to even SEE 10 million in my lifetime Say hello to Blinkie for me, and tell him if his pet ever gets upset with you, there's always a place for you in sydney :(Laughing out loud):
July 8, 200519 yr Say hello to Blinkie for me, and tell him if his pet ever gets upset with you, there's always a place for you in sydney He says hi back but he also says that he'd never be naughty enough to be driven away by me! Depending on the size of the aviary you should be able to have several more budgies to make a mini flock. As a general rule no other parrots should be kept with budgies. Either the budgies or the other birds are likely to get hurt.
July 8, 200519 yr By the way, how old is Blinkie now? Oh and by the way, looked at your site! It's fantastic very graphically artistic :artist okay, i was planning on breeding my 2, but if that doesn't happen then i'd most likely buy from a breeder. So keeping quails with bugdies are okay right?
July 8, 200519 yr Blinkie is nearly 6 months old now!!! They grow up so fast!! I'm glad you like my site. I should probably update the photo's on it. I'm pretty sure you can keep quails with budgies....not 100% sure though so wait for someone else to confirm that. I would love to keep some quails with my budgies.
July 8, 200519 yr awww.....but on the bright side you can have one bit troublemaker, and possibly many little troublemakers biting holes in your newly purchased $100 dress  Keep quails!!!!!!! It would be fun...despite responsibility! But i wonder, if they get pooped on, how would they know???And then get it off???
July 8, 200519 yr I've decided tonight that i cant. It's been pouring rain all day today and there's about an inch of rain on the bottom of my aviary! I don't think the quails would like that too much!
July 8, 200519 yr Yeah i guess that's the best thing to do. But i'm going to have a cover built over them, so hopefully that will keep out any unwanted water. You wouldn't by any chance happen to know any good breeders in the sydney area, would you? I know you live in Canberra but i'm just being very hopeful Thanks, L&L
July 8, 200519 yr I don't know of any breeders full stop. My aviary is covered down the bottom. Water just seeps in. See, this is my aviary:
July 8, 200519 yr Cool aviary! It's very homy Does it seep in from the side or bottom? Coz if it seeps in from the bottom you could pave it with tiles or something. That way it would be easier, not to mention cleaner to deal with
July 8, 200519 yr It goes in the bottom. I doubt i can convince dad to get tiles. At one stage we were but it never happened. I have sand on the bottom which is really easy to keep clean so it's not causing any problems.
July 8, 200519 yr sand? hmmm...never thought about it. Maybe i should get sand! Cya guys, so tired...for me it's 1 in the morning right now.....so i'm pretty pooped!
