does anybody use sanded perch covers here?

i have three perches in my budgie's cage (one natural branch. one plastic and one sand covered)

i use this paper cage covering stuff on the bottom of my cage so there is nothing to prevent thier nails from growing quickly so i have one perch with a sanded cover on it so that they have a choice. they seem to enjoy being on that perch-they rip up the cover and things like that.

i have heard that the covers can make bumblefooot apear but they have a choice not to go on it but they usually choose to go on the perchj with a cover.

does anybody have any problems with the use of sanded perch covers?

I don't use them because I have read they can cause foot problems. But I have a concrete perch in the cage for their nails as well as regular wood, rope, and manzanita perches. I have never had to trim Rainbow's nails, but Skittles' nails grow fast even with the rough perch and I have to clip them fairly regularly. They also seem to like to use the concrete perch, but it is not the highest perch so they don't stay on it. Do you use them just to keep their nails trim? Is your perch with the cover the highest one in the cage?

it's the lowest one by the food-i knew not to use it on the highest one as that is where they spend most of thier time.i use it just to keep the nails trim but i also heard that seashell perches are good? my local petshop sells them and they are ment to help with the nails

i only use it on the lowest perch because i don't use it on the floor

I also have a calcium perch, which may or may not be the same thing as an eggshell perch. It is good too, as they will eat it.

so you just like clean the floor?

well if they go on the bottom of the aviary then they will ware down thier nails so that good but mine doesn't so i need to use a perch cover
