Posted June 28, 200520 yr Please help me. My budgie Timmy has some flying problems. I was on vacation for 4 days so he stayed with my parents. Everything was okay, I opened the door of his cage, he was very happy, trying to fly, but suddenly he find himself on the floor. At first I thought it was because he hasn't fly much at may parents. But when I lookes closely, his right wing is shaking and somehow bigger. What is wrong. Apart from this, he eats regulary, his methabolism is okay, and has no changes in behaviour. :budgiedance:
June 28, 200520 yr It sounds like it is either very badly sprained or maybe even broken. If at all possible I would find him a vet so you know for sure. Julie
June 28, 200520 yr I would say there is a possibility of a fracture or a dislocation. You bird needs to be taken to the Avian Vet right away, if there is a serious injury, the faster its treated, the more chance he has of regaining flight. He could be in quite a lot of pain aswel. If there is a fracture, your vet may prescribe some anti-biotics to prevent infection setting in. Id certainly class this as potentially very serious, and more than worthy of an emergency vet appointment. Anne.
June 28, 200520 yr OH! And WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!!!! How rotten of us not to welcome you immediately! We are very glad to have you here :budgiedance: What always throws us is a health problem, that ALWAYS comes first, so hopefully we havent made you feel unwanted or inadequate. Updates are very much appreciated when it comes to our feathered loves Anne
June 29, 200520 yr Unbelieveble! I spent most of my day trying to find the vet who is really capable with budgies. All I've got is the answer: Well, we are only dealing with cats and dogs. And the most horrible story I've read is from croatian budgies forum. Can you imagine that one vet is responsable for death of budgie? Aparently she didn't know how to hold the budgie and how to put him the injection. So, have I got a problem or what? Anyway, Timmy seems to be much better. He is flying. Not so good as before, but... Definitely his wings are not broken. Anyhow, we have appointement with vet tommorrow. I'll let you know.
June 30, 200520 yr Great news everybody! Timmy will be all right. Vet said that he's probably fallen from bar during the nightsleep. (My mother confirms that). His wing is bruised a little bit. Anyway, we got some vitamines and minerals and vet suggested to rest for a while. You should seen him, he was so patient. My breavest blondie. Edited June 30, 200520 yr by Norah
