Posted June 21, 200519 yr Oh no!! I was clipping Squeaka`s wings when there was a CLACK and I think his wing is broken. Is there anything that I can do???? Will it stay like that forever???? HELP ME PLEASE!!!
June 21, 200519 yr VET! This is urgent. If his wing is broken or dislocated, and not treated ASAP, then asides from the torment of the sickening pain, this bird may NEVER be able to fly. I cant think of anything worse! He MUST be taken to a vet as soon as possible, sooner even! Wing clipping should only be done by a professional, or a very experienced person. I feel sick inside thinking about what damage has been done to the little thing. Please, get him to the vet NOW, dont even ring up, just turn up and tell them it is an emergency. Let us know what happens, how he goes on, please? Good luck Anne
June 21, 200519 yr you seem to have as much luck with budgies as i do. I hope you can get him to a vet soon. And i hope he makes a full recovery poor bird.
June 21, 200519 yr this is very very serious chirpy is absolutely right. poor little birdie. did you get him to the vets? i hope he is okay, please let us know what happens.
June 21, 200519 yr im hoping that this is a good sign, no replies i mean. hopefully its because our family member Ktsmurf is bust at vet :dbb1:
June 21, 200519 yr If you broke your arm I'd hope a parent would take you to the doctor. If your bird is sick or injured, you take it to the vet.
June 22, 200519 yr :dbb1: YAY!!!! I'm back from the vet with Squeaka. He is going to be fine although he may not be able to fly again. Luckily he is not in any pain. The wing will be strapped so that he can't move it until a callous forms. At the moment he looks incredibly funny in his little bandage. He keeps getting his foot stuck in it!! Im so happy that he is okay. Thankyou so much for helping me!! Everyone was such a help. :angel1: :parrot: :parrot:
June 22, 200519 yr you'll have to keep a very close eye on him now that his wing is in a 'sling'. Has he got a seperate cage that you can adapt as a disability cage auntil wing is healed? If you need help or guidance with that I can give it you. If he is left flightless, then he will probably need an adapted cage for the rest of his life, a fall off a high perch will be extremely dangerous to him. Has he been given any antibiotics to ensure that infection dosent set in in the fracture? (and hopefull pro biotics to counteract the side affects on his gut floras?) He'll have to be closely monitored for getting his foot caught in bandage or he may end up with a broken toe or foot aswel, or losing a claw. Just another quick point, be sure to pad the bottom of his cage well, so if he does tumble before you adapt it(if you havent already) at least he will have a cushioned landing. Donr use towelling as his claws culd get tangled in it, soft fleecey material is better, with a layer of newspaper on top.
June 22, 200519 yr im so glad he goin to be okay. but i hope this puts anyone off clipping wings their self. if you really want to do it please please please get it done by some one professional. hope Squeaka is okay soon. ATD
