Overgrown Cere

Hi there

A question about one of my parents budgies. One of them has an overgrown cere, it potrudes a lot more than usual. Its on a female budgie who's lived quite happily for many years like this, it just sort of happened gradually.

Is this a bad thing? and is there anything that should be done about it?

never really done anything about it as it doesn't appear to effect her in any way but any ideas greatly appreciated.

Some hens get cere that are a lot thicker than normal. If it is not hurting her or affecting her breathing I think you don't a worry.

Of cuase if you are still worried seeking a vets advise will help sort out the issue :D

Hi bethan

Female budgies ceres will go thicker and crusty when they are comming out of breeding condition. If her cere is dark brown and looks like it is a bit flakey or scabby then don't worry it's normal.

you will know somthing is wrong if its covering either of the nostrils, then you would relly have to get her to an avian vet

Thanks guys for your responses!!

Like I said she's been like that for ages and doesn't seem to have a problem but since finding this fabulous forum thought I'd ask! I might provide photo in a few days cos though it is like angel121 describes it looks quite prominent

Thanks again
