lost egg

checked on the first egg this morning in aviary

and it has been eaten by another hen,she has taken over

the nestbox,

the problem is her 2nd egg is due today will she go back to that box.

i'm hoping not.

i have 4 hens and 7 boys.

can you not seperate the laying hen and her mate from the others so they can hatch their babies in peace?

She don't seem to have one mate, she mating with all

the boys.

she layed her first egg wednesday so the second is due today.

not seen it yet.

will she lay a second egg?

she seems to be staying away from the boxs.

Do they just give up?

Hi james2710 can you pick a mate you want her to breed with and put them is a separate breeding cage. It is alot less stressful on her and you if they are left alone when breeding. Also if you dont know who the father is how are you going to breed them when they get old enough? So you don't interbreed. :(

She will have the egg if it is ready to pass, if she doesn't have a nest she will pass it on the ground.

Good luck and keep us posted. :(

all the babies have got new homes to go to.

i Will not interbreed.

i have moved the nestboxs around a little,

and the hen have layed her 2nd egg in a new box.

so far so good the 3 other hens look like they have picked

there own boxs, but still only one hen has started laying,

so the other 3 hens might still change there mind on there

nestbox.
