I am new and need a lot of help

I am new in this hobby and i need a lot of help. My budgies seem to go on quite good together and they seem to even kiss each other. i made my own breeding box 15x15x 20 (cm) with a hole in the bottom (the hole does not go through, for the eggs to keep in the area). i also made a stick for them to stay on it on the outside and a small one on the inside. i have had them for a month now and they seem old enough maybe a year (the male) and the female seems to be a bit older.

they seem to comunicate with my neighbors budgies and other birds as when they hear them they start to chirp and do a lot of noise, espacialy in the morning. the weather here is getting hotter and the day is getting longer and i think we will have a good spring.

Now my question is TELL ME EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW PLEASE.

i know that you all maybe told this part a lot of times but i do need help, and that is why i thank you all.

Yes, greens, veggies, & fruits R good 4 them but don't change their diet cuz their droppings will turn into diarrea, this happened 2 me!

Don't open the nest box 2 much, just 1 or 2 times a day cuz if u open it 2 much the hen will brake her eggs!

Don't take the eggs out cuz the parents will brake the eggs!

Buy some vitamin formulas which u put in water & u can buy them at stores, this will help the hen and won't give her diarrea even if u haven't given this 2 her b4!

Provide cuttle bone or mineral block, there is one that comes with both, this is best!

If u can, check with a flashlight (once the eggs have been layed) 2 see if they R fertile, if they R they will have veins and a blob at the top as mentioned in other topics!

Also, check around the forums and go to http://www.lafeber.com/feeding_instructions.asp to learn how 2 handfeed!

thanks but when they will start to have eggs? and do they need things in the box like pieces of cloth etc. or shall i put some in the cage or nothing?

oh my. i think you should wait a while before you start an do ALOT of research go on google or ask.com

i do not think u should start yet

thanks alot for the help. yesterday i noticed that at a moment both of them where in the box is that a good sign? and i have another young one Sky in a separet cage which i got a few days ago and from some reserch i did i think it is a hen .... is it good if i put her with my pair ?

Regarding reserch i am doing quite a lot and i think the best way to learn things is to ask the experts ( you guys ) on this good forum

i wouldn't call myself an expert as i have never actually bred budgies but i do know quite a bit about it i think hath is really clued up on all of this

i am giving my pair '' Pete and Holly'' some greens and fruits now which they seem to enjoy a lot. Altough i a new and know nearly zero on the topic i think that it is better to leave them alone in the cage. :D

i am really looking foward for the first egg to be layed and you all be the first to know.

there are loads of things that need to be learnt but if you feel your okay then youi go ahead and jump right in there and us lot will try to help

i have just checked you site clint and it is good (thanks for the tips)

i have just checked this site (i hope i will not do anything wrong)

very interesting

i think i have seen that one before, i have done like all the possible research ever but am still learning stuff from on here

yes me too... :D

this is a great place to learn new things

Oh just read something u said 4 days ago about when will they have eggs.

well only time will tell, I'm been serious.

Just give em right amount of sunlight, appropriate foods & walla.

I dont really know how u get em to breed.

I remember me always annoying the **** out of adam, asking him how do u get em to breed. & now that mine have i can't even explain it to anyone.

God im such a dumbass :D  so sorry adam, that i annoyed u 24-7.

:D Clint, u never annoyed me!

LOL

your all so lucky to be breeding

gosh aren't you a mine of information

Thanks for the information.

Regarding my pair, I got them from different pet shops so they were not raised together for sure.

What I will do now, if nothing happens until the end of this week, I will buy a nest box and change it with the current one. What I have also noticed is that when I check it, the hen panics because maybe she doesn't like it. I use to check it maybe twice a day but now I am going to do it every other day. If even then nothing happens I will take them to a quieter environment maybe they need somewhere quiet.

Thank again

I heard somewhere that if it's dead quiet, the budgies will think that there is a predator prowling...It really stresses birds out. In their native habitat, there is constant noise, except when there's danger.

i keep my radio on for them :( they seem happier for it :(

i keep them in a room (a washroom, in your contries it could be like a flat attic, we build our houses with a flat roof) and we always open the windows and our neighbour has a very big avairy with some kinds of different birds. so i will keep them here. but for sure i think something is wrong.

turk and pudding talk to the magpies, i wonder if they could understand eachother.like us talkin french or something? (Laughing out loud):(

UPDATE ON THIS TOPIC:

my hen has not hatched yet shall i wait more or shall i change the nest box. right now the box i have, i did it, shall i buy one?

HELP!

Edited by maltabudgie

i did the nest box and i think that it was an obvious mistake that i meant to say that it did not lay any eggs

sorry but it was not obvious i thought the same as clint she had layed but they were infertile anyway apart from that

1 were you sure they were in breeding condition (i have just read this thread for the first time sorry dont know how i never saw it)

2 you say they seem old enough are you sure can you check.

your describtion of your nest box is a little hard to follow i have never heard of the hole in the bottom but i am not saying that it wont work mine are 6x6x12 inches with 3 inches of wood shavings the hole is in the side at the top it is up to you whether you change the nest box i know you are just starting but i would check the above points first

i think when she says a hole in the bottom she means a concave like a dent to put the eggs in
