Posted June 15, 200520 yr New cage front: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/Lysine/e98ef5be.jpg side: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/Lysine/7bc0b40a.jpg Its bigger in life the photos don't do it justice! The tray is actually a light green colour but the lighting isn't great on the pics. I'm planning on getting a new budgie for a friend for Little Bird, what do you think of this cage? It was only ?39.99, I saw a Ferplast Rekord 3 for ?36 and this one is much bigger than that cage! I'm so pleased with it! Heres pics of my current cage to compare size front: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/Lysine/f2f64bec.jpg side: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/Lysine/6fef6421.jpg Theres two doors on the new cage, one on the front and one on the side. The one on the side opens upwards so I'm going to take it off and turn it upside down so when I open it I wouldn't have to hold it open, it would just fall if you understand! Thats the only adjustment I need to make to it I think
June 15, 200520 yr much better size glad you found a good one. your birdies should still get an hour at least out of the cage each day though if you can now you can look forward to buying lots of nice accessories to fill it! your budgies will love it.
June 15, 200520 yr That's a nice cage! What a good idea to hang the door the other way-I never thought of doing that. Julie Sometimes the one on the side can be used to hang a bird bath on so if you're thinking of doing that, check that a bath will still fit with the door the other way round. Or you can just use a dish!
June 15, 200520 yr my cage has two doors too except i dont use the smaller one. my two little ones try to bite their way through the main door! (Laughing out loud) so what they dont know cant hurt them
June 15, 200520 yr See how it has four feeders on the front as well as the water bottle thing on the other side? Do I really need so many feeders or shall I remove some and cover the holes? I was thinking of taking two feeders away and using one for seed and one for veg etc (when she decides she wants to eat it!) and then use the bottle for the water. What do you think? I'm new to bird keeping
June 15, 200520 yr well the cage i have had 4 plastic feeders on it, two at each end of the cage. i decided to remove all of them and bought some little seed cups that hook onto the cage bars as my budgies prefer not to stick their head into the seed sups. i also thought they were too low down for them and didnt like the positioning. i had to selotape the plastic covers to the cgae bars as casper managed to escape through one of the holes. when you have one bird in there you could have one seed cup for seeds/pellets and one seed cup for treats and veggies, although some birds dont like to eat veggies from a dish (mine will only eat it when it is clipped to the bars). one water drinker will be fine when you get 2 birds, it is best to have t2 of everything in the cage to prevent squabbling are you going to keep your old cage as a quarantine cage for your new bird? it must be kept in a separate part of the house and thoroughly disinfected. its also a good idea to wash your hands after handling one of the birds. hope this helps a bit
June 15, 200520 yr Actually I should probably get seed cups too because a couple of weeks ago I found my bird actually stuck inside the feeder thing (on the left on this picture http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/Lysine/f2f64bec.jpg). I'm so glad it was the seed one, I've heard of birds drowning when doing the same thing I lifted the lid and she flew out and was fine. The lid is sort of jammed on with a little bit of plastic that sticks out so I tried filing that down in case she got in it again and then she'd be able to push the lid up herself, but no that didn't work. The feeders on this new cage look smaller but I don't think I'll take the risk to be honest, I'll remove them all and go buy a couple cups tomorrow. And another bottle as you suggest Even if its just for little things I really like going out and buying stuff for my pets! Yes the old cage will be for the new bird and she'll be placed two rooms away in a quiet room for 30 days or more, I have this planned out already but I haven't even got the bird yet! Going to start ringing round refuges tomorrow. I haven't actually put Little Bird into her new cage yet. My mum had this great idea of putting her cage inside the new cage so she could get used to being inside the new cage, but with the safety of her old one. That will be tomorrow though, she flew into a window today (very lightly though, all these accidents I sound like I'm not caring for her ) so she's been put to bed early to chill before she gets excited about the new cage tomorrow. June 16, 200520 yr thats great nash! you can never be too prepared. dont worry about the window incident, casper has flown into one on more than one occasion before! try leaving just a little gap in the curtains and gradually increase it. you must be really excited
