bar distance

I've been on the lookout for a new cage today as I'm planning to get a second bird. There's this really big cage with a free stand for about ?56 on offer so I'm pretty interested in getting it. I was wondering though, the bars are further apart on this cage than on my current budgie cage so how wide is too wide when bars are concerned?

Anything wider than 1/2 an inch is too wide.

It's possible that you've seen a cockatiel cage which wouldn't be suitable for a budgie.

Yes it might have been a cockatiel cage, there were a few others in the shop that I had my eye on so I'll have a better look next time I go in  thanks!

Actually why would wider bars be a bad thing? Would they get their legs stuck or something?

Their heads could get stuck if they ever decide to shove it through the bars.

Aww!! small bar-width it is then!! Poor things

And when it's a new bird in a new cage they do try to push their heads through to get out.

i think i answered this question in another thread? budgies have died because they got their heads wedged between the bars, panicked and strangled themselves.

make sure you dont but a cockatiel cage.
