Posted June 11, 200519 yr Hi, Was wondering if there are any factors in determining the sex of the birds before hatching ? May sound strange, but i know that in reptiles for instance, the temperature that the eggs are kept in the nest will detemine the sex of the offspring. IE... warmer temperature will give females, slightly cooler temperature will result in males.....(or is it the other way round ) Anyway, last year i had 7 chicks hatched and reared and they all turned out females. PS, All 7 were from the same parents.
June 11, 200519 yr Hi there, I do remember reading somewhere that sunlight can have an effect on weather more male/females are produced, I think it was on the budgerigar world site and was written by terry tuxford, I have also read they he can tell the sex of a chick before its hatched just by looking at the position of the developing embryo in the egg. also read an article about people being able to predict the sex by the shape of the egg. I will see if i can find it and post on. GILL.
June 11, 200519 yr if you have artificial lights and use full spectrum bulbs you gat an increase in hens hatching and its quite an increase
June 11, 200519 yr theres also a device on sale here in the uk that states it can tell the sex of chicks in the shell claims to be about 90% right depending if it swings anti or clockwise
June 11, 200519 yr well i cant say that i believe it but there was an article in cage and aviary last year and some people swore by it
June 11, 200519 yr Don't use full spectrum bulbs hath, just a common a garden 40 watt light bulb where the nest boxes are
June 13, 200519 yr i have 2 5 foot fluresant lights and a 60 watt day night dimmer for my bird room <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hath do you have more hens than cocks hatch or are they about even?
