Posted June 11, 200520 yr Hi everyone, I've had Polly a bush budgie nearly a year and she's always been very active unlike our other english Budgie who is content to staying in his cage. I let them out for a few hours each day under the supervision of either myself or mum, but unfortunately Polly succumbed to our cat Merlyn two days ago. I patched her fairly quickly with a reasonably non toxic/removable band aid which somehow stopped the bleeding of a single, rather deep left lower neck/shoulder puncture. I took her to the vet yesterday and got a course of Doxyvet powder which is some sort of antibiotic I think to stop Merlyn's germs which is to be dosed at 200ml/300mg daily for 10 days. The ambient temp is cold here atm (15C) so I've got her incubating at about 32C between my two dual 36W light fixtures on my fish tank lid with a lightly furry towel against the glass and light sides so she can't burn herself and a thin tablecloth over the top for excess heat dissipation and so she can't fly away and injure herself further. Is there anything else I can do to make her feel comfortable in the unlikely event she might somehow pull through. Thanks.
June 11, 200520 yr Make sure she has plenty of water and seed and just keep checking her. If she starts to look worst take her straight back to the vet. I would also try to get a thermometer to keep a check of the temp so that she dosn't get over heated.
June 11, 200520 yr looks like yourself and Daz have got it covered, Daz is usually really good with advise, bless him! the budgie, it must have been terrifying for her, but sounds like you really love and care for her, so im sure she will pull through! please keep us posted, all the best! Love Dawn x
