Increased Urates?

Featured Replies

My budgie Zoe has had runny droppings since I got her. There is her droppings and then a ton of urine! Sme days they are worse then other days, but she has never ever had a nice budgie poop like my kiwi.

What could cause increased urine like this? Do you think its treatable?

This is a picture of Zoe and Kiwi droppings, the ones in the middle are mostly smooshed from them playing around with that paper at the bottom. Little Brats! (Laughing out loud)

BUt notice the large dark ring around them? THats from her urates, also notice the poop in the top right corner, that is one of her not so bad droppings once it has dried.

Another thing, she is a very nervous bird, and when she sits on my finger and we go for a little walk around the house, the entire time she drips urates down my arm. (The urates are not always accompanied with poop)

What do you think?

There are many more knowledgable on here than I am, but my guess would be a trip to an avian vet is in order. Sounds like you bought a sick budgie... how long have you had her?

Risha

I have had her since last October. She went to the vet some time in November and at that point they said it was due to stress. It has never gone away, her dropping have never been normal.

I made her an appointment with the Avian on Sunday

Other than her droppings, she looks very healthy. Eats well, clear eyes, clean vent, energetci, ect.

It's great that you're taking her in to the vet, especially since this has been going on a long time. What's her diet like?

Good luck at the vet, keep us posted. :)

Stress can cause this but as eterri asked what is her diet? Too much of certain foods cause this as well. Especialy lettuce.

Sometime her dropping look a little normal. Last night she had some clumps of runny ones and then a couple that look like kiwis but twice the size and bloated (like dog food expanded in water)

She eats:

Budgie Seed

Zupreem fruit pellets, canary size

vegtables (mostly brocoli, and they dont like fruit)

She is definatly a very nervous bird, but when she is in her cage she should be fine, or at least I thought so.

Do you think she should go to the vet?

Yeah, I'd definitely take her to the vet.
