Get out of the cage!

I try to let Soda :bb: and Pony  have free fly time everyday. I put their cage in the safe room and close all the doors, etc. They never come out though! I try to bribe them with treats and have let them stay in the room over night to no avail. These guys don't like to go on my hand very much and if they do, they hop off before I can get them out. Any ideas? :D

Can you do something in that room for a while (read or something) and just have the door open for quite a while each day?

Millet clipped JUST out of reach outside the open door?

aww looking at your picture in you signature their cage looks really funt, why would they want to come out hehe

yeah i think millet just outside would be a good idea!

I've already done that. They never go near it. Sometimes the door is open all day on weekends...

I don't know if I can still edit, or how, so I will just post again. Sorry if that's not allowed...I am just in the process of trying something new. I have taken to top off the cage including all the toys attached to the top so they have more room to get out. I clipped some millet to the highest edge of the cage but so far nothing...

Do you keep millet in the cage all the time? If so I would take it out and just use it for this purpose.

I put it in every other day or so. They really like it but aren't tempted enough. They did get out yesterday for a bit which is good. The first time in months!

Hi Natalie :) Was very glad to read that Soda seems to be improving! Once things are more 'back to normal' you may find theyre a bit more keen to go exploring. Budgies are such sensitive little souls, maybe they both knew that soda was sickening for something, and more cage clingy because of it.

Maybe. I think I will remove the top of the cage everytime now. Do you think that's a good idea?

Yes, I would if its easy to take off. They may feel more comfortable leaving and re-entering the cage with via a larger area. My budgies always go in and out through the top, even though they also have a large front opening door.

Anne :(

Mine go out through the top, but I put them back in through the front door. I ask them if the "birdies wanna come out??" and open the top. Some of them are out before I have it all the way open sometimes. :(

If only mine were like that...

At least they have the freedom to leave their cage if they want to Millimi, thats the main thing. The fact that they choose not to take advantage of the opportunityreally dosent matter much, they must just love their cage! How is Soda doig now? :D
