I have bred budgies for years!

Is it me or are Yellow and white budgies not able to breed!

Mainly Yellow one really! :D

I can't think of any reason why they would not be able to breed....

Of course they can breed. How else would there be more and more.....there wouldn't be many if you only got them at random.

Why would they not be allowed to breed.. I can understand if they are brother and sister etc but otherwise I would have thought they were the same as other budgies.. :yellowhead: :D

I remember my grandma saying something about inos not being able to breed....is this maybe true is certain types of animals??

Why do you ask Vickey, are you having trouble?

I have noticed that there is a decline in the amount of pure yellows and whites in retail outlets

But this maybe a side effect of to much inbreeding

There are a few tricks you can try with the female shaving the rear of the female or removing some feathers

Helps the male to do his job

This does not mean get out dad?s hair clippers okay!

Reason being there can be a build up of oil on the back of the bird

You can also candle the eggs after 4 days to see if there fertile

I mark each egg as it?s laid and 21 days later bingo

Also it?s a good idea to get a male you know is fertile and put it with the female

Well I hope this helps and all the best

Wouldn't the hen get a cold bum?

Wouldn't the hen get a cold bum?

Well my info came from a English web site so I don?t know

I have never done this myself but I suppose this would be a last resort

I can just imagine a kid getting dad?s hair clippers and going to town owe it only hurts when I sit down

But if you know a male bird that is fertile just try and mate it sometimes it?s the male and sometimes it?s the female.

Just a matter of trial and error.

Well all the best and I hope this helps

I asked this question because in the past when I have had a Yellow budgie - they are not interested in breeding!

Get a green or blue one and whollop eggs - chicks and so forth

I did think it might be genetics because white cats and dogs are prone to deafness etc....

Oh well will find out soon enough as cresent and Dumpy have paired off and they are mostly Yellow!

Thanks for all your answers!
