HELP ME (and any advice on budgie breeding will be appreciated)
June 6, 200519 yr Well I have only breed in single breeding cages (well once anyway) But I would think remoivng any future eggs from now or or even adding fake eggs to the box so the hen has somethin to sit on will help. Then as the babies and eggs that are there now fledge and leave the box remove them. ihopefully someone with more insight will come soon to help you more. Edited June 6, 200519 yr by nerwen
June 6, 200519 yr i would suggest the keep the aviry warm and let them raise these clutches then remove the nestboxes once the babies come out of their nest and they shouldnt lay any more
June 6, 200519 yr Does it get cold in Australia? Clear plastic nailed around the Aviary works wonders for me amd my birds during winter! They still get light but are protected from the worst elements!

I think this is where you are haveing problems. You should mark the eggs they are sitting on now, and take any more that they lay away when they lay them. this may sound crule but letting them breed through winter is cruler unless you are breeding inside. They need a break too. How many nesting boxes do you have ? How many pairs breeding? i would suggest the keep the aviry warm and let them raise these clutches then remove the nestboxes once the babies come out of their nest and they shouldnt lay any more <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

HELP ME (and any advice on budgie breeding will be appreciated) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well in the wild budgies breed all year long depending on the available supply of feed and water See budgies live mostly up far north which in Australia is hot most of the year but it does get cold at night even in places like Darwin. I live in Sydney and this year it?s a strange winter most days so far have been in the mid 20s and that is about 6 degree above normal I have 2 pair still sitting on eggs which I will let alone See budgies have a way of knowing when its to cold the female and the male will stay on the eggs Its only if your birds are exposed to high winds but if you have set your aviary up in a sheltered place then you should have no problems But if you live down south then I would remove all the eggs and remove all the nesting boxes until spring time. Well I hope this helps and all the best.

I am also having the same problem with my birds, so I am finding these answers interesting. I can't take my boxes out ,so I,m going to try and cover the holes somehow.

I clean the boxes out with a brush.
