Posted June 4, 200520 yr I got Sunshine to let me bring him out of his cage on my finger today!!!! Granted it was just outside the cage door, but he sat there for several minutes and didn't go back in his cage till my hubby walked by, then he dashed back inside. But now hie is sitting in the cage with the door open clicking his beak. Risha I got him back out and got hubby to take a picture. (Unfortunately hubby didn't zoom in like I asked, so it is a little blurry.) Woo hoo, this bird might be tameable yet!!! Risha

June 5, 200520 yr He's doing great! Its a fabulous feeling when those tiny litt;e budgie feet cling fearless to your finger, and you can feel the delicate weight of those miniscule little feathered bodies. Nice one! Anne

Did it just happen or did you have to do something?
July 5, 200519 yr I spent several days with my hand in the cage, usually easing up toward him from below, with just a finger extended. Once I could get him on my finger, I would move by tiny incriments toward the cage door. It just took time and patience. I am still working on getting him on my finger when he is out of his cage. (He doesnt fly due to clipped feathers, so he gets on the floor and gets spooked by anyone coming at him from above.... just instinct.) Risha
July 5, 200519 yr Have you been trying Eterri's cupped hand elevator method Risha? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It doesn't work for me, they just get freaked and fly off

July 5, 200519 yr Have you been trying Eterri's cupped hand elevator method Risha? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It doesn't work for me, they just get freaked and fly off <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's what's supposed to happen, make him feel rescued by you when he flies off. Make sure he's in a small room so the only place to fly off is the floor and the only way to get back up high is your hand. Oh, and don't go at him from above, put your hand down to his level beside him or in front if he'll tolerate it. At first he'll think you're after him but after a while he should realize that you're just trying to bring him back up to where he wants to be.
July 6, 200519 yr Thanks for your help. But i want to ask will it work if his wings aren't clipped and he's an adult? Because i think that's it, but i'm not sure, because maybe if i persist enough he'll come, but i need a 2nd opinion Thanks, L&L
July 6, 200519 yr It's harder when the wings aren't clipped but if you have a really small room to work with that will help. Especially if you can limit how many "perches" he can find. If at all possible, you want to make sure you're the only (or at least best) way for him to perch up high.
July 7, 200519 yr Thanks, i'll go check if we HAVE a small room with nothing in it.....don't think i will find one, cause if there was one my mum would know about it, mainly cause we have no room for anything! Thanks! L&L
