Posted June 7, 20232 yr Hello from Romania As the title of the topic says, I have a pretty sick budgie and I am desperately looking for some help. The professional help in Romania is quite scarce (nationwide there are only 3 doctors specialized in birds and they're mostly doing some guess work), I am in permanent contact with one of them, still the condition of my budgie gets worse by day, so any suggestion/idea is more than welcome. The budgie in discussion is a female (apparently, I'll explain later why), 3.5 years old, going by the name of Ciri. By the end of February I've seen Ciri posing a strange position (up on the perch, body paralel to the ground, but the head was a bit lower than the body) and the breathing was pretty heavy and visual, so I took her to the vet. They've discovered a bulge next to cloaca and initially it's been diagnosed as a liver issue (my budgies are eating 90% seeds, they refuse pellets but eat fruits and vegies), then they've said it's a tumor, so they've recommended Loxicom (meloxicam) twice a day for 2 weeks. On top of that, I've received some Calcium EDTA, Avi Chol, liquid Milk Thistle and some vitamins. Later on, they've took a stool sample and discovered that the bird(s) have a Candida infection, so they've prescribed some treatment for that too. Shortly after these medicines (maybe related, maybe not), the cere changed color from brown to bright blue (that's why I've said that apparently I have a female budgie). Since the day I took Ciri to the vet first and now, the weight was mostly the same (32 to 34 grams), but her body gets slimmer and slimmer and the behavior is completely changed (has a very weak chirp, she cannot stand on one foot, let alone flying, she doesn't go up on the highest perch, her eyes are closed and seems to sleep most of the time, she's not leaving the surroundings of the cage, when I'm leaving the room she's going on the bottom of the cage and sits in a corner). I've tried sunflower seeds and Milk Thistle seeds, but she doesn't want to eat that. Currently, besides miIlets, I give her 1 ml of Recovery twice a day, but the situation keeps going from bad to worse. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Maybe the doctors misdiagnosed Ciri and she has something else, or maybe you can suggest something to improve the current state and help her gain some weight... Any suggestion or idea is more than welcome. Thank you very much for your kind support! P.S.: I may have forgot or missed some details, so if you are not sure about something or you require more details, please let me know.
