Possible seperation of budgies

Hi! I have a small question for those who are a lot more knowledgable about budgies than I.

I have two budgies who are brother and sister. We kept them in the same cage because they never showed any signs of mating... until this week.

The male budgie (PW), has always been a randy fellow and loves to hump a couple of his toys. But ignores the female.

Lately the female budgie(Pikmin) found a way to lay down on one of the higher perches. Then she... uhh... lays on her side and spreads her legs. I have to laugh because it seems like some weird budgie dirty movie.

Anyways, I found PW the other day ready to mount Pikmin. So I went over and talked to them, basically making them stop.

Just a couple questions:

1) I know basically animals shouldn't inbreed as this causes many defects and diseases among the animal population. Is this true with budgies?

2) I don't have a nest. Is it possible for them to still have babies?

I just need to know, as if I seperate them, I need a another cage.

Thanks in advance!

1) Very true with budgies. They've been heavily inbred as it is and have many problems with that already.

2) It's possible but not likely. If the female does happen to lay eggs, boil them, shake them, or just plain throw them away and replace them with plastic ones until she gets tired of them.

Rearrange their cage often as that discourages breeding as well. If egg laying becomes a big problem, you might have to separate them as a last resort.

I'm glad I was on the right lines of thinking.

My budgies don't like coming out of their cage often, but tonight is clean night for them. I put them off in the corner of the room with their playground and bath while I clean their cage. I'll be sure to rearrange things.

Sounds good! I hope it works. :bluebudgie:
