Help - Sticky feathers!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am a new member of this site and am really concerned about my budgy. I have 2 in a cage but one has started to look quite poorly. His feathers are fluffed up and he sleeps a lot but he is eating his seed. There is a mirror in the cage which he has started to hide his head behind. The strangest thing is that the feathers on his head have all stuck up ? it?s like he has some hair gel on and his feathers are in little spikes! My other budgerigar is completely fine and his feathers are smooth. Has anyone out there seen anything like this before? What could it be???

Thanks :)

JennieB. It sound like a trip to the vet is called for.

1. Separate the birds. You don't want the second one infected.

2. Keep the sick bird warm and make sure he has plenty of water.

3. Arrange for a vet/avian vet to see him asap.

It maybe a virus. One thing to remember is that budgies rarely show illness. So if you are seeing a sick budgie, it is time to quickly get him to a vet.

Good luck

I agree with Daz completely. It sounds like the ill bird has been vomitting, this is very serious. He needs to see an avian vet A.S.A.P.

Good luck!

Does he look ragged like he is molting (spikey hair?) or does he just sit fluffed up on both feet and doesn't move? Spikey hair makes me think of molting, but the sitting fluffy and sleeping all the time doesn't sound like a molt-related behavior.

Well those are definatley signs of illness. When something isn't right about your bird and/or its not acting normal, a trip to the vet is the best thing you can do. Hope your budgie gets much better! :P
