Posted May 30, 200520 yr Can anyone please help me. We bought an albino hen yesterday from a petshop that we have previously bought 4 other budgies from, all of which are wonderful (02 are still in quarantine but are fine) we hadnt seen an albino before and thoguth they were beautiful and so bought one, she had a crusty cere, (which I had read was normal for females) so this didn't concern me, she was very aggressive in the little box coming home, but when i released her into her cage, she very quickly calmed down, but this morning when I went to check on her all around her face looks wet (as if she had been dunking her head in water) the rest of her body was fine though, this morning she was behaving fine whistling etc, but then this afternoon she just stayed in the corner of the cage, i caught her again and had a good look at her and apart from the face being wet she seems fine, she was biting etc (Laughing out loud), then when i put her back in the cage she seemed fine again. Is this anything to worry about (there is no colour to the wet part, it just looked like water). Thank you so much Dawn
May 30, 200520 yr Have you noticed her sneezing any? Is the wetness just above the cere, or is it on the sides of her face too? Do the wet feathers look dirty at all?
May 31, 200520 yr Has she had any wet vegies which she might be rubbing up against?? She may have had a bath and her face still hadn't dried. Was there any dew on the cage bars which she might have rubbed against??
May 31, 200520 yr Hiya Rainbow & Bea thank you for replying. Rainbow in answer to your reply, no she hasnt been sneezing at all, and the wetness was all over her face, literally from top to bottom, as if she had been dunkeing her head in the bath (do they ever fully dunk their head in water?) the wetness is totally clear. Bea, she didnt have any fruit or vegetables in there because i didnt put her any in with us not getting her until night time, i just wanted her to settle her in until the next morning, when i usually attemp putting my hand in (with any of the new birds that I have bought) by putting them fruit or vegetables in. There was no dew that I could see in the cage, but she has got a water pot which the night before we laughed at because she was actually sitting inside the water, (don't know if she thought it was a bide (Laughing out loud)) this morning she does seem a lot chirpier, when i went into the conservatory to her she was walking around at the bottom of the cage, but her face still looks a bit, not wet but as if you can see the feathers have been wet, and are still a bit stuck together but not as bad as yesterday, she did whistle again when i went to her and spoke with her. Thanks again Dawn x
May 31, 200520 yr do they ever fully dunk their head in water? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hehe....well my budgie Jasper doesn't just dunk his head, he dives in completely!
May 31, 200520 yr Hiya Bea thank you so much for that photo, I have saved it because i really cant believe what i am looking at, part of me thinks its funny, the other part of me feels that if i saw any of my birds doin that i would dive in to 'rescue' them (Laughing out loud). I feel much better though after seeing that. thank you so much, I can always rely on you for good advice or help
May 31, 200520 yr Hehe, no problem! Have you seen the picture of Blinkie flopped over in his celery? He looks totally dead! Blinkie's sleepy head Have a look at that. Seriously, hardly anything seems weird with all the ***** things my birds do!
May 31, 200520 yr Those photos are fantastic, you have some great budgies Bea. We have all had a good look and laugh at them, bless their little hearts Just been back to check Belle again, and her face has dried, she chirped at me as soon as I walked into the room, and when I went to the side of the cage she came to the side and whistled which i thought was nice, I'm still either going to keep a close eye on her or maybe set up cctv to monitor her bathing activities (Laughing out loud), once again thank you so much for your help Bea you are a star! Love Dawn

May 31, 200520 yr hehehe! :(Laughing out loud): its such a good feeling to prove someone wrong sometimes (Laughing out loud), in the kindest possible way of course! your budgies have such cool names! love them we just recently bought some new water fountain drinkers. they are slightly wider than the old ones we had and we caught casper dunking his little head in it once this was quite suprising considering casper hates baths! budgies are very strange little creatures (Laughing out loud).
