Posted May 30, 200520 yr Hello All. Once again i look to you for your guidence and wisdon. My Budgie 'Kez' was mating and her cere turned a crusty brown Colour and is now rough in texture. I have made an appointment with the vet but they can't fit me in until the later part of the week. This happen before when she was laying but returned to normal very quickly. This time it isn't. Can you help? Thank you Eve and 'Kez' :nest:
May 30, 200520 yr i think it is normal for this to happen. i think it happens during the breeding season. i dont know how long for though, could be a while? i dont think you should worry too much unless there are other unusual signs like discharge from the nostrils or something.
May 30, 200520 yr Her cere looks normal to me. When hens go into breeding condition the extra hormones their bodies produce causes the changes in cere color and texture. Mine stay that way all year round, once they get brown and thickened they never change. If she is laying, it may gradually go more whitish towards the end of her raising her clutch as she goes out of condition, but that is normal too.
May 31, 200520 yr yeah its definately normal. our Charli normally looks like this: charli only just got her crusty nose back after about a month while she was going through her moult. :bb:
