Posted May 27, 200520 yr the baby hatched at 11.20 last night. i was so exited it wasnt due till today but its only a few hours early. i was checking to see if the hen was feeding the baby and i saw all this horrible yellow stuff inside here right up by her neck where her heart and lungs would be (its not in the tummy, where there are also sighns of food by the way) is my baby gonna die?? its the bank holiday weekend so the vets arnt open till tuesday and its only friday. please help me im soooooo worried
May 27, 200520 yr Sounds like it's just food in the crop (where food is stored before digestion). I'm not a breeder but this sounds perfectly normal. And if this is the case, I think you should start doing some speedy research! This is something you should have known before allowing your birds to breed.
May 27, 200520 yr i have done my research, and i have waited nearly 2 years to breed my first pair of budgies. i know that food is stored in the crop but in all my research i have not heard of a big air bubble which is what i can see in this baby. it is 24hour old now and still livly so im hopeful. but any advise would be helpful (by the way, posting on this forum is a form of reseach)
May 27, 200520 yr do any more eggs look like they are going to hatch? its usually one every day isn't it? Im sure the little baby is okay. are the parents busy?
May 27, 200520 yr Since it's not feathered, the crop will look a bit like a big air bubble. It's just weird because there are no feathers surrounding it. http://climate.uvic.ca/people/ewiebe/eggs/22_04.html Does it look like the first picture there?
May 27, 200520 yr yes, there were 5 eggs in total, all 5 fertile. the first was due today but it hatched yesterday and now the second egg is showing signs of hatching but its not due untill sunday. The hen hardly ever leaves the nestbox so the poor cock is eating for two so he can feed her! there are both hand tame and the cock craves my attention even more now that he's missing the hen. bless! (thanks for the reassurance)
May 27, 200520 yr eterri please show me a picture of week old budgie!! i want to see what my new budge budge might look like even though i have seen one that age before. HEHE

I would guess 2-3 weeks on those, but they are really cute. budgeover, you are funny.
May 27, 200520 yr i am getting impatient. life without a budgie is meaningless. but as i keep saying to myself. 'its better to have loved and lost a budgie than never to have loved a budgie at all'

May 28, 200520 yr It all sounds like they are doing well. When you say they have hatched earily how many days are you expecting them to hatch? I agree with you rainbow and Bea those babies are not 1 week old at least 2 and a half to 3 and a half weeks. Hope all you babies are healthy. keep us posted and try posting some pictures. :ygbudgie:
