Posted May 22, 200520 yr I need to re-decorate a bedroom shortly (got my Auntie from down-under coming to stay ). My birds will all be downstairs by then, but can the fumes from gloss paint harm budgies? I know you can get low-odour gloss paint, is that harmful too. What does everybody do? Because this must be a common problem. I thought I'd better check it out before I start - don't want to harm the little ones Edited May 22, 200520 yr by jeenie2001
May 22, 200520 yr Well when we were giving a lick of paint we kept the birds as far away as possible from the room and had windows and doors open. Also if you put some saucers of vinegar in the room where the painting is going on it helps to absorb the smell.
May 22, 200520 yr yeah i think in an ideal world people would prefer their birds to be outside of the house while the painting is going on or stay at someone elses house - but a lot of the time this just isnt possible or practical. i think the room you are painting you should just keep the doors shut and open the window to let the smell out as quick as poss. be sure to keep the little birdies in the room that is the furthest away from the painting.
May 22, 200520 yr As above. Birds have extremely fragile respiratory systems, so the further from the fumes, the better. Anne
May 22, 200520 yr Julie- I've never heard of the vinegar idea, do you think it would work with my question about getting wood floors refinished? or is it just for paint. Jeenie- let me know if you try it and how it works- good luck. Ps what color ar you painting the room?
May 22, 200520 yr Thanks for the advise everyone - as my babies are downstairs the bedroom won't be a problem then. When I do the lounge they will have to go into the dinning room I think because I've got one of those big indoor aviaries and I don't think I can move that to someone else's house - pictures herself wheeling it down the road :(Laughing out loud): :(Laughing out loud): Never heard of the vinegar trick - I'll give it a go, it's worth a try. Ferozar - not really got a clue about colour yet - but it's got to go with yellow, I've got yellow curtains that are still good
May 22, 200520 yr is your dining room right next to the lounge? if it is i would try to move them to a room upstairs. depends how many budgies you have though.
May 22, 200520 yr nah- it doesn't need to go with yellow- it just gives you an excuse to buy new curtains!!
