Tequila was always such a good little bird, she never fluttered away and will always step up onto my finger. i taught her how to give little kisses but sometimes she will actually kiss me and other times she just makes a little kiss noise. she likes to be rubbed under her wings and she'll tolerate be petting her head.

He-he...every time I try to rub Rainbow's tummy, he steps up on my finger! He thinks we are playing the ladder game... I can't pet him any more at all because he does that.

Ive had my budgie (princess) for 2 months now and i can not even get her finger trained! As soon as my hands go in the cage she freaks out and just flys everywhere, i let her out every day and when she is not allowed out she squarks and shouts untill she is let out or taken into another room. The few times i have had her on my finger was by givving her millett, but as soon as there is no millet there is no budgie! I really want her to be like the other tame budgies and id be gratefull for any advice. :D

that is what my hen is like but you can carry on trying

Richard-Does she freak out as well when you are near the cage, or just when you open the door and put your hand in? You might try pulling up a chair and just sitting next to the cage and talking to her or read a book or something to get her used to you being near. Then put your hand on the outside of the cage, and keep doing that until it doesn't seem to bother her. (This could take weeks.) Then you can start over putting your hand in the cage with millet or whatever her favorite treat is. It may take a long time for her to become tame. Put in perspective though - If she lives 10-15 years, then you have quite a long time to get to know each other (just like regular friends). :) You just need patience. I think we all want them to be tamed quickly, but...you know how that goes. :D

She gets a bit upset when I go near the cage aswell, what I cant understand is, she is fine with my face, she is not scared of it at all, i can kiss her and she even eats from my mouth sometimes but I have to put my hands behind my back, as soon as she sees hands she gets upset and nervous.

Ill try sitting with my hand on the cage and see if she gets used to it.

has she had her wings clipped? that can be a reason why they are scared of hands sometimes

No she hasnt had them clipped as far as I know, i think she was very young when I got her because she was pure white! now she is starting to get a bit of yellow around her head. Is it possible for a budgie to change colour?

Is it possible for a budgie to change colour?

if she was young and had not gone through her first moult then yes she may have supple changes to her colour after the moult

my budgies thunder nd lightning used to *** on to my shoulder nd my hands all the time but wen lightning died nd i bought ice thunder stopped bein friendly nd ice just doesnt wanna no but they r not scared of me nd they get all crazy wen i go out the room

Usually it is normal 4 a budgie 2 fly all around until they get used 2 u, but it could also b somethin' from the past that has 2 do with it!

Where did u get him/her?

I just got a budgie 3 hours ago. Not only can he be held with no trouble, but he can be pet (patted?) on the head or chest easily. Do i have an unusually tame baby?

jessehk, your budgie's probably hand tame and familiar with hands :bluebudgie:

your budgie is scared. He doesn't know where he is or who you are. give him a few days and he will not want to be patted!!! He is just not knowing what to expect at the moment. at the moment he would probably let you do anything to him.

you sure budgeover? i mean, your probably right, since i have no experience with budgies (well i have but don't remember), but just questioning :bluebudgie:

yes i would say so.

In my experience when you first get a budgie they tend to be very quiet at first. letting you do what ever you want with them. They appear the perfect budgie. They lull you into a false sense of security and then BAM. around 4 days after getting your budgie their little personalities come out. ofcourse im not saying that all budgie will be wild and untamable but i find that they become more harder work to tame. I can't really explaain what i mean fully.

yes, i see what you're saying :bluebudgie:

When you first get a budgie they are usually quiet. They're probably a bit shocked at the sudden change in environment!!! :) That's why your suposed to let them settle for a few days. So they can adapt. :fear
