Hello, I was just wondering: Soon I will bring a new budgie home. I live in a country where budgies' wings are not clipped (animal activists see it as cruel...but that is another story). Should I clip the wings (I only would like to do so once, for taming purposes) immediately when I bring the budgie home, or instead wait some days/weeks before doing so? I don't want to make the bird afraid of me with irreversible damage to its trust in me. Please advise me!

PS: Please do not bash me for clipping the wings. This is not a discussion if it is morally correct or not. Thanks!

clipping primary flight feathers on one wing is fine - like clipping your finger nails- when next your bird moults , new flight feathers will grow.

you only clip one wing as this upsets the lift a bird gets when trying to fly , therefore it cant fly too high or far due to exertion of the flight and in uneven air lift

disregard the activists as they obviously have no idea

Wait for him to get sorta familiar with you, do NOT grab him to clip his wings

As soon as I brought my new budgie straight home, I clipped his wing when I had to take him out of the box to put him into the cage.  That way he wouldn't be traumatized again.  I have had him now for 4 days and instead of being stressed and running from me, he let me touch his feet!  I waited a day before putting my hand into the cage and when he got stressed I removed it.  I was very gentle with my hand and today, day 4, I could pet him!!

You never ever clip the wings.

Your petvis not for you – you are for your pet

There is absolutely no reason to clip the wings. You may need to clip the tips of their nails, but better than someone else does that.
