Hi everyone, happy to be here among fellow bird-lovers!

I got a baby budgie at the end of March, so he's about four-and-a-half/five months old now. He's a really sweet little guy (his name is Shelley), and he's getting really tame (he'll step up straight away, and snuggle on my shoulder or chest). I got him after getting advice from a fellow owner, who told me only to get one bird so it would bond with me. But I work a normal full-time job (eight hours, five days a week), and I don't think it's fair to keep him on his own, even though he has a wide variety of toys and the radio on while I'm out. He gets a LOT of attention when I am home cos I live alone, so at least two hours in the morning and six in the evening, but I still worry about him being bored and lonely during the day.

So I'm going to get him a little budgie pal. I know I may lose some of my bond with him but it's worth it if he's happier. My question is, when would be the best time to do this to try and retain as much of a bond with him as possible without leaving it so long he's pining for company when I'm out? Six months after bringing him home? A year? Or should I be doing it right now?

Thanks in advance for any help! x
