Posted February 24, 201411 yr One of my older girls has had her beak fall/break off. 5-6 weeks ago she had bleeding the top of her beak so I took her to the vet, they cleaned her up and said she'd broken her beak. They glued it back together and said she would be fine and to just keep her away from the others, so she in our Nursery cage. We noticed this morning her beak is gone, the broken bit was on the bottom of the cage. Haven’t been able to take a photo yet, but the tounge is visible and it looks like the top beak is completely gone. Will it grow back? or do we need to euthanize her?
February 24, 201411 yr I have absolutely no expertise in this at all. My gut says it won't grow back but I have no clue. How did the beak break in the first instance? Here is a past topic from the forum... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=1927 and this is what I found off Google. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100327172114AAGY10V Edited February 24, 201411 yr by JimmyBanks
February 24, 201411 yr How far down the beak was it broken? Unless she is able to crack seed she would starve. You will have to try and observe her and check to see if she is dehusking her seed, if she is able to do this her beak may grow back if the root of it is still intact. Their beaks have to be clipped, on occasion, when they don't get enough to chew on for their beaks to stay "normal". Maybe she has a chance, others may be able to advise if they have had similar problem. It really depends on how much of the top beak remains I think. Let us know how she gets on.
March 2, 201411 yr Author Budgie was euthanized yesterday. We took her the vet after we noticed there was a lump growing where her beak had broken.
March 2, 201411 yr Sorry you lost her. It sounds like she had some type of tumour there. You did everything you could for her, well done good luck with your other birds.
