Should I Breed Budgies?

Featured Replies

Posted

I want to breed budgies. I have lots of experience with budgies such as emergencies, health problems, etc. I have fostered budgies for about 4-5 years now and have a total of 3 large cages, 1 in use. I have had experience in breeding other animals and understand the cost of this. I have had an egg bound budgie a few years ago, she was from a bird hoarder and a week after we got her she died because of this :( we didn't even know she was pregnant because she had only been with us for a week. I have about $300 in savings but my parents are willing to pay for some things. I also have a close friend who is training to be a veterinarian so I have immediate help if needed. Is their anything else I need to consider before I breed? Any help would be appreciated. :)

Consider how much time you will have, you need time, time, time, time. But u sound like you have everything down pat so I think your right, just don't breed any budgies under 9 months probably even under 12 months is too risky.

Here is something from our FAQ section.

Have a read and that will give you a better idea of if you really want to breed. Whether you should breed or not is entirely up to you. Let's face it, you're on a forum called "Budgerigar Breeders Club" we are going to be slightly biased in our opinion LOL.
