Posted December 5, 201311 yr Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I have one male budgie called Frank, I'm pretty sure he's violet, that I got at the end of feb this year. I think he was approx 12 weeks at the time which must mean he's almost 1 year now. He comes out, and is happy to sit on my shoulder or step up on my hand but prefers doing his own thing on his play gym on top of the pantry. I'm just wondering if it would be possible to make him more tame? So that he lets me scratch his head and is a bit more interested in doing things with me haha. Just wondering what I should do to get him to this stage?
December 5, 201311 yr They often like their own independance, but if you keep interacting with him, plus handleing him often, it may get him more interested in being with you. good luck with him.

December 18, 201311 yr thanks for the tips everyone . This could help him to learn that the playgym is a good place to go to, One thing i will mention about budgies and petting them or scratching their head. Most budgies do not like it but then there are some that proably do enjoy it. Edited December 18, 201311 yr by birdluv
December 18, 201311 yr Are you teaching Frank any words? My Jeff loves to sit on my finger or shoulder and I talk to him. He is almost hypnotized by it. When he wants to get my attention he says "hello" in his cute budgie voice then he will fly to me and just annoy me all day if I let him. LOL. He says,'where's Charlotte, where's Sophie?' Stinky bottom. Sexy and I know it. *cough cough cough* excuse me. He also copies my kids laughter and screaming. I love him and his comical antics.
December 19, 201311 yr Author Aw Jeff sounds like a cutie rachelm! How old is he? I haven't taught him anything yet, but I might try to! He's already started to get more tame since I have been more consistent. Is happy to sit on my shoulder for a while and is okay with me touching his beak.. just not his head yet.
December 20, 201311 yr I bred Jeff myself and he will be 2 on the 5th May 2014. Frank will more than likely pick up words and sounds without you teaching him. But it is super cute when they talk.
