Posted November 2, 201311 yr Here is a picture of mom and dad. While you're at it, what do you think Dad's mutation is. and here is Baby. Thank you, I look forward to your answers.
November 2, 201311 yr I really know nothing about mutations, but wow dad is a stunner!!!!!!!! I would keep him at Fort Knox.
November 3, 201311 yr Author Thank you Phoebes. Fort Knox is a little way from Québec, and these birds live in France. I guess I'll have to wait a bit for other answers. Here is a new photo of the baby Uploaded with ImageShack.us Edited November 3, 201311 yr by Martine
November 3, 201311 yr Hi, I'm not to good with mutations but i will have a go at it. Male might be a golden face grey wing but unsure of baby. Thanks
November 3, 201311 yr That baby is so adorable! he looks like a multi colored pop sickle. I wish we had more variety of budgies here. You really got a good picture of him. I don't know if you saw my thread about my dream budgie but he looks much like the dad. http://forums.budgie...ie You have to admit you kind of have my dream budgie. T'as vraiment de la chance! Notice in my thread my dream bird was a Sky blue yellowface mutant 2 spangle. I can hardly wait to see what your birds mutations are. Edited November 3, 201311 yr by Phoebes
November 3, 201311 yr I think Bird love is on the right track I think I might add opaline, greywing I don't know mutations much either. Sadly we seem to be a bit short on mutations experts these days. So I guess it's read, read, and guess until we get close to the mark. l.o.l Baby is beautiful maybe classed as a pied/dilute even of some sort, also if male he should be split Albino. Love more pics as it colours up more.
November 4, 201311 yr Author It's not my bird Phoebes, It belongs to a member of my forum in France. J'ai un forum en français, le plus gros et le meilleur! But I stink at mutations, and right now, we seem to be lacking experts too. My specialty is nutrition. I have a limited interest in genetics and we could not make this one out. Do you live in Québec City? I checked you dream budgie vidéo, it made me dream of Barbados! Especially since the weather is so rotten here. The baby robyn, everytime somebody gives it a try it's different. I tought dilute too, perhaps his marking will become a little darker as he gets older, because now it's almost nothing. But don't forget the yellow face you guys. Edited November 4, 201311 yr by Martine
November 6, 201311 yr Author I don't want to be a pest, but I would really like more opinions... Who is the master mutation identifier? Edited November 6, 201311 yr by Martine
November 6, 201311 yr The baby is Yellow face opaline greywing. The cheek patch in the last photo is saying pied or spangle. More photo's would be good.
November 9, 201311 yr Hi Martine Im no expert but here goes. Your cock bird looks to be Yellow face T2, Clear flight pied Hen is ino Chick is Yellowface T2, grey + Clearflight pied/ split to ino. I am taking a guess but I think that the diluted nature of the chicks colour comes from the fact that the only thing colour wise that the hen has contributed is ino therefore NO additional genetics to offset the natural dilution of colour that occurs with the YF mutation. (this is a guess and cant back it up or dispel my little theory at this time) All of my current YF chicks cary Df of violet + Sf of grey so my colours are at the other end of the scale to this chick. food for thought paulie also I dont think full opaline as a visual trait but the cock does display an opalescent trait in the wings
November 9, 201311 yr I don't want to be a pest, but I would really like more opinions... Who is the master mutation identifier? Hi Martine, when I first joined b.b.c there were several members, show breeders, who could identify birds from 3-4 day old chicks to whatever mutation that was queried. Unfortunately they seem to moved on to other hobbies/sites etc. I for one really miss their input. For the rest of us I think it's read whatever information we can get hold of and make as close a guess at mutations as possible. There are still a couple on here that have picked it up a lot more than I have, being only a pet breeder I don't find it a problem. Even though I'd like to get my head around it, it all seems a bit hard for an "old hen" l.o.l, to tackle fully.
November 10, 201311 yr Your pair looks identical to a pair Ive breed before I breed my rainbow cock to an ino hen and got the same colored chick who grew up to look like her father. My rainbow cock https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.236457536426774.56040.236446063094588&type=3 His daughter
November 14, 201311 yr Dad is no way a clearflight pied. He is a goldenface most likely SF gf cobalt and also appears to be greywing as already stated and opaline . mum could be hiding anything under her albino white coat of little surprises Hi Martine Im no expert but here goes. Your cock bird looks to be Yellow face T2, Clear flight pied NO Hen is ino Chick is Yellowface T2, grey + Clearflight pied/ split to ino. I am taking a guess but I think that the diluted nature of the chicks colour comes from the fact that the only thing colour wise that the hen has contributed is ino therefore NO additional genetics to offset the natural dilution of colour that occurs with the YF mutation. (this is a guess and cant back it up or dispel my little theory at this time) All of my current YF chicks cary Df of violet + Sf of grey so my colours are at the other end of the scale to this chick. food for thought paulie also I dont think full opaline as a visual trait but the cock does display an opalescent trait in the wings the fact that the only thing colour wise that the hen has contributed is ino therefore NO additional genetics to offset the natural dilution of colour that occurs with the YF mutation. (this is a guess and cant back it up or dispel my little theory at this time) an ino can hide anything so your statement isnt correct. . An ino hen we had breeding recently produced ALL GREY OPALINE DOMINANT PIEDS when paired with a blue split ino cock.....this proved that under her "little white coat of surprises " she was in fact a DF grey opaline DF dom pied.................so what an ino hen contributes can be anything under the sun .......because you cant see what she is carrying or masking Baby appears to be a yf or gf blue dilute Edited November 14, 201311 yr by **KAZ**
