Posted November 1, 201311 yr Hi, I have a question regarding seed coral. I really like the idea, but I don't know how it works. I have put the seed coral outside of the cage. I think it is too big for my cage to be inside. First the opening for the feeders are a little to high and when i put the seed coral it is stand even more higher, because the bar to put it. I think Cado don't even understand what is that and how to go inside of the feeder? Did you have this problem ? Maybe because he's a baby ? what should i do ? leave it or remove it ? Maybe I have to find a perch close to the seed coral feeder so he can sit and understand that there is a feeder there ? Also between the butoon of the opening and the seed coral there is a space. Will be not put his head there ? Right now I am looking for diffrent perches that are coming with the cage. Same for cup for water what is placed on the cage (petco's model) i really don' know if he understand what is that... thank you for your help
November 1, 201311 yr I have seed corals and I put a perch right in front of them. I'll post a picture of the setup. I don't think it's good to have it outside the cage even if it's big. Here is the setup in my four cages. Notice I put little feeders up top so the seed falls on the coral and the birds can use that surface too. Edited November 1, 201311 yr by Phoebes
November 1, 201311 yr Author thank you Phoebe. I will try How do you change seeds in coral ? It is placed if I understand well not in the feeder's opening but also inside. You have just remove the whole thing from big door and change ? I don't know why but I thought the seed corral is smaller Do you know if it is good idea to put it outside of the cage and how budgie can understand where to go My cage is not that huge, 26" x 14"
November 1, 201311 yr I would still put it in the cage even if the cage is small. I am afraid outside the cage the bird might be too shy to go. If you let him go outside the cage be careful when it is dark to have a night light or he will hurt himself if he panics. There are some feeders for outside the cage but so far I have had problems with them. I have to tap them to get the seed to go down or one model leaked all the seed onto my floor. It's funny because when I was a child, my budgies learned to tap the feeders with the beak to get the seed to go down but my birds now will not learn this, I guess I have spoiled them. With the seed coral I take the whole thing out to change the seed. I take out the metal things, they are too easy to lose, and put them in my pocket. I go outside and shake it around and blow on the seed to get rid of the hulls. Then I add fresh seed on top. I throw out whatever is left after a week to the birds outside and start over with new seed. You can use a measuring spoon to add an amount each day you think is reasonable. I always add too much, and waste. I'm bad for that because I am afraid they will be hungry. Some more experience members might know the right amount to give them per day. I think if the cage is small you might want to try some feeders like this. http://www.drsfoster...08&pcatid=21008 You could use anything similar to this and also put a perch not far away from it. I am going to order a few of these and try them out. I am still looking for a good model that works well. Or you could try little ones like this http://www.drsfoster...89&pcatid=11589 Not the big one I tried it the birds don't like it. I think the small clean cup with perch will be better, a similar model will work as well. Edited November 1, 201311 yr by Phoebes
