I was wondering how you determine that the millet you buy is safe. I read that some people use F10 on it. I would not put anything on my birds food. I don't judge others who do this but having seen how long it takes to rectify some scientific debates I have a hard time trusting the safety of some products. Especially because most research done is paid for by the companies selling us these products. There is not much money in independent scientific research. This would be like trusting tobacco companies to tell us smoking can cause cancer. Also I read that the effects of some products on animals are only tested for a period of weeks after exposure and not long term effects.

When I buy the millet I am often worried about the smell. It has gotten to the point where I think it always smells wrong except maybe the more expensive red millet I buy.

I have been reading that Aflatoxins can be more toxic than some pretty dangerous poisons. Also some of them seem to be florescent under certain lights. I wonder if any of you have found a method other than the smell for checking the freshness of millet?
