October 27, 201311 yr Wow, Saturday came fast! (For me, probably not for you, lol.) He's definitely a boy. So you didn't end up getting the lighter green one that was looking down in the photo you sent me? This one is very pretty and he looks good. You will have a lot of fun with him!
October 28, 201311 yr He is an adorable little fellow Is that him in your profile picture too? It is excellent that he is hand fed! I got my little budgie Allen from Finnie and he was hand-fed and tame when I got him. I definitely think that getting a hand fed budgie is worth it It was so much easier to tame him than I'd expected. Good luck with your little guy!
October 29, 201311 yr Very pretty fellow can't tell you mutations, other than a type of pied, he looks at home already.
October 29, 201311 yr Author Thank you robin... I don't know if he feels at home. I brought him on saturday and today is monday... he is still not moving a lot and when he sit on a perch he tries to sit back to me. He was alone today as i was at work. I have put him mimic me with a sentence recorded with my voice. When i came back home, he looks like he was happy to see me. He started to agitate and even when I asked him "up" he jumped on my finger but it was only for 1 sec, and then he sit again back to me and seems not even know me I put happy budgies music and he looks very very agitated. I can't understand happy or nervous. But he looks like to was seeking for other birds. I let him go off the cage but as his wings are clipped he can't fly a lot. He found a corner, put him self there and started to scream of distress !!!! Not a happy first try I put him on finger (even if he was initially afraid of me too) but i think he was happy to find me. I calmed him down with my voice and put him on top of the cage. He didn't move at all. I have received today a big cage for him as for past two days he was in his temporary home it is big but he doesn't move i put there two toys. The perch are still not good. I don't know how to cut them and put in other sense. Also I am not sure that he understand how to use water feeder that attached to the cage. I like it a lot but i don't know if he drinks...how to make them understand it ? thank you very much for all your help
October 30, 201311 yr Author Today have shown picture on my little one to co-worker who had before parakeet and she told me that it's probably a girl because cere is pink and boys should have blue re-started check the postings again to find if baby boys have pinkish cere :0 What mutation of male parakeet has blue and who has pink ? Just in general
October 30, 201311 yr Hi Kiwi, your budgie is a male (cock). A juvenile female (hen) will have light rings around the nostrils. A juvenile cock will have an even pinkish cere. My dom pied's only develop a partial blue cere at maturity and rec pied's stay a pinkish colour.
October 30, 201311 yr Author Thank you Paulie !!! What does it mean Dom pied and rec pied. What pied is my budgie ? I start to understand a little about cere but all pied stuff is a mistery for me
October 30, 201311 yr they are the genetic mutation that shows in your bird as the different body colours. Visually your bird seems to be a combination of Dominant Pied and Clearflight Pied which is strangely enough Dominant to Dom Pied but you can still see The Dom Pied patch on the back of its head. Ill put up some pics will be easier to understand than my description. Yellow face, Violet, Normal> Juvinile hen Df Grey normal/ recessive pied hen. These 2 birds have consistent body and wing pattens Yellow face Grey Cin spangle hen. See the different wing markings from the previous bird. Edited October 30, 201311 yr by paulie
October 30, 201311 yr Dom Pied + Clearflight pied Grey / Recessive pied(markings are masked by dom and CF) This is a cock bird but shows only a little bit of blue on its cere If you look at the white patch on back of head and white patches on body. What you are seeing is the base colour of the bird in this case he is white base. Base colours are white or yellow. There are 4 variations of pied and a bird may carry 1 or more of these mutations. Dominant Pied, Recessive Pied, Clearflight Pied, Dark Eyed Clear, If some one else would like to post a picture of other variations that be great. I don't have 1 Hope this makes a bit of sense!!!!! and is by no means comprehensive. any questions please ask, if I don't know ill try to find out. Edited October 30, 201311 yr by paulie
