Posted October 26, 201311 yr My Baby Budgies want to fleadge, but mum and dad won't let them. The oldest sits in the hole crying to come out. But mum sits on the perch blocking access and dad flys at it urging it to go back in the box. Can I put them on the bottom of the cage myself? Or Is there anything i can do to stop the parents to let them out?
October 26, 201311 yr You could just take the parents away, if they are going to fledge. They may not be ready. My budgies constantly chirped sounding like they wanted out and the mother sat at the entrance but they fledged a few days later.
October 26, 201311 yr Unless the parents are hurting the chicks, you should just leave them alone to fledge when they (and the parents) are ready.
October 26, 201311 yr I'd have to agree with Finnie. Mine were very angry when the babies wanted to come out. Eventually the first born did and the parents chased him around a few days. He held his own and the others came out.
October 26, 201311 yr Finnie and Phoebes are right. Unless the parents are harming the chicks, leave the birds alone. The parents will let the chicks out eventually. I often have the opposite problem where the chicks are quite comfy in the nest box and want to stay there indefinitely (and the parents let them).
October 27, 201311 yr I'm with flip on this, Mine come to the entrance and call for food, they reach out sometimes to the extent they then fall out but manage to get themselves back into the box, (if they are really not ready I put them back in). I have had some come out into cage but at night they return to the box for a couple of days. I find once they come out, if they perch they stay out, sometimes there is a huddle in the corner when "the giants are there" but as soon as I go out they start to wander around the cage trying seed veg's etc after seeing parents eating it.
